Former Disney child star Raven-Symoné has opened up about undergoing cosmetic procedures, including liposuction and breast reduction, due to body shame.
Speaking on her podcast, she recounted her father’s suggestion for a breast reduction and the challenges of undergoing surgery at such a young age.
The actor credits his wife for helping him overcome his sugar addiction, resulting in a 40-pound weight loss. Looking back on her youth, she admits to experiencing body shaming as a child actress.

Raven-Symoné Had Cosmetic Surgery Before She Was 18

Nickelodeon child star Raven-Symoné recently revealed that she underwent cosmetic procedures, including liposuction and two breast reduction surgeries, in response to body shaming during her childhood as a star.
The 37-year-old actor shared his experience about The Best Podcasts with Raven and Miranda. Reflecting on the decision, she revealed her father, Christopher B. Pearman, had “strongly” suggested breast reduction.
According to Daily Mail, she recalled discussing the options with her father, and he was like, “So you’re not sad, is there anything you want?” In response, she said, “Yeah, if I get lipo, will people stop calling me fat?”
Symoné emphasized the challenging experience of undergoing this procedure at such a young age, adding, “So I got double… It’s just a mess, just being young and the pain of it all.”

After her breast reduction, the “House of Raven” star revealed she had seizures. She described waking up from surgery, recalling, “I remember waking up and seeing everything … and then I started having this dry mouth and couldn’t breathe and came back down.”
Despite this assumption, she felt that her breasts were still too large and underwent another procedure because of her weight gain. The Emmy nominee admitted to having little memory of what might have caused the seizure, which still “terrifies her a little.”
However, she expressed gratitude for her choice, believing it prevented her breasts from sagging to her “ankles.” Reflecting on the experience, she says her breasts grew back “not as big as they were.”
Raven-Symoné Credits Wife For Helping Her ‘Kick Sugar’

Last year, Symoné attributed his 40-pound weight loss to his wife, Miranda Pearman-Maday. During an appearance on “The View,” she credited Pearman-Maday’s support, guidance and cooking skills for helping her overcome her addiction to sugar, which she called a “drug of addiction.”
“By [my wife’s] help, and guidance, and love, and great cooking skills – which everyone here knows – she helped me kick sugar,” she said. “I say kick sugar because it’s an addictive drug. I’m addicted in the form of wheat, in the form normal, and it’s out of my system,” he added.
Over the years, Symoné has been transparent about her weight loss journey. In an Instagram Live session with Miranda in May 2021, she proudly announced that she was 28 pounds lighter.
Raven-Symoné Recalls Being Body Shamed As A Child Star

In 2017, Symoné openly discussed the stigmatization she faced during her early years as a child actress. Comparing how different the world is today, he said people magazine, “I wish I lived now as a younger person, I probably wouldn’t have so many mental problems.”
Recounting her past, she recalled instances where people criticized her weight despite her achievements, commenting on her size in relation to her performance. “[They said] I’m too big to do an hour and a half concert. ‘I don’t know how he can dance that big.’ And I was like, ‘I’m still doing it!'” she recalled, per Daily Mail.
Highlighting talent and performance beyond size, the “That’s So Raven” star added, “I’m on tour forever because it’s not about your size, it’s about what you have to say if you can sing or dance, and perform . It’s not about your size.”
She further acknowledges the evolving perspective on beauty and diversity in today’s society, accepting the inclusion of various appearances, identities and orientations. “We weren’t good enough last time and I think that’s what the past is for – to make sure the present is what it should be,” he added.
