- Renu lost her husband, Yashpal Sharma, on July 13, 2021. Yashpal died of a heart attack at the age of 66. His funeral took place at the Lodhi crematorium in New Delhi. Among the men in mourning were his former teammates like Madan Lal and Chetan Sharma.
- Her husband was an active player in the Indian cricket team that won the 1983 World Cup. Yashpal played all eight matches (of India’s campaign) during the 1983 World Cup. In 2021, a Hindi film titled ’83’ was released; depicts the story of India’s extraordinary Cricket World Cup victory that took place in 1983. Indian actor Jatin Sarna played the role of Yashpal in the film.
