Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) claimed Thursday that “good conservative” lawmakers are falling prey to “honeypot” schemes and voting in ways to avoid being sidelined for their deviant behavior.
“Powerful people” who trap members of Congress “are always either out on the floor or in private rooms” with the president, Burchett told right-wing podcast host Benny Johnson during a discussion focused on the impending release of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. customer list.
“They are the ones who write the big checks. They don’t care who comes in [office]. They hate this country. They hate what we are about. But they love their portfolios and they love their money more than they do anything else,” the 59-year-old congressman said, adding that they gather derogatory information about lawmakers to “protect” their investments.
“And by doing that, you know, the old honeypot — the Russians did that — and I’m sure members of Congress got caught,” Burchett suggested, without offering any specific evidence other than the voting patterns of some of his fellow congressmen.

“Why in the world would a good conservative vote for something as crazy as what we’ve seen from Congress?” Burchett said.
The MP went on to point out how he believes the honey trap scheme works.
“You’re on tour, you’re out of the country or out of town or you’re in a motel or a bar in DC and, whatever you’re interested in — women, men, whatever — shows up and they’re really interesting and they laugh at your jokes. And you buy them a drink. The next thing you know, you’re in a motel room with them naked,” he said.
“And the next thing you know, you know you’re going to make the main draw. And what happened? Some well-dressed person comes out and whispers in your ear, ‘Hey, man, there’s a tape on you,’ or, ‘Are you in a motel room or whatever with anybody?’ And then you’re like, ‘Oh,’ and [they] said, ‘You shouldn’t be voting for this,’” Burchett continued.

The congressman argued that “it’s human nature” for lawmakers to vote in a way that will keep private information from getting out.
“And, you know, no man or woman is really an island. And they know what to do. You know, if it’s women, drugs, booze, it’s going to find you,” Burchett said, claiming that extortion like this happens at all levels of politics.
“I’ve been in this game my whole life. I spent 16 years in the state legislature in Tennessee and eight years as a county mayor. And now I’m in my fifth year in Congress. But it’s just – the stakes are higher. But the game is still the same,” he said.
Burchett theorized earlier this week that Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) to subpoena flight logs for Epstein’s private jet was famously “rejected” by Senate Democrats because some were “compromised.”
“Too many of my colleagues, I fear, are compromised in this area. For whatever reason, someone whispers in their ear, saying, ‘Hey, you don’t want something coming out on something else. You better shut up about this,’” Burchett said during a Monday appearance on Newsmax.
