Jenna Lyons recalls how she was cast aside before she was ready.
Although it seems like a long time ago, the “Real Housewives of New York City” reboot star opened up about the world learning about her sexuality during her divorce from her ex-husband, artist Vincent Mazeau, through a news publication in 2011. She talked about the unpleasant experience during chat with the ladies of “The View,” admitted to being “overwhelmed” by the drama.
Jenna Lyons Allegedly Ambushed To Affirm Her Sexuality
Despite being New York’s first openly gay housewife, Lyons openly shares that the public outing was traumatic, especially since she didn’t come out to her friends and family at the time.
After admitting that seeing a report about his sexuality in the New York Post made him rush to buy all the copies of the publication he could find, the former head designer of fashion brand J. Crew said:
“It’s very difficult, and I think, you know, I’m not in the public eye that much, it’s all new to me, and I don’t expect anyone to care about what I do in my private life. life and suddenly everyone cares.”

The 55-year-old revealed that he was shocked and surprised by the situation as he was still trying to figure it out, adding in a clip shared via YouTube:
“I remember The Post calling our PR team, and they said, ‘Listen, can you get on the phone? We will run this story. Do you want to confirm or deny?’ I just said, ‘Verify,’ and it was like an out-of-body experience. I was so overwhelmed by everything that was happening in my life that I just said yes.”
Since then, she has wholeheartedly embraced her sexuality and is now proud to be a role model for young individuals in the LGBTQ community. To that end, Lyons emphasizes the importance of representation and its impact on others, especially the younger generation remembering:
“One of the things I experienced when I was at J. Crew was that I had a lot of young kids come to me and their parents thought they weren’t going to make it. They’re like, ‘My mom is so relieved to see someone succeed who’s openly gay.’ And for some reason they think it will limit them, or they won’t be happy, they can’t find success in their career or happiness in love, and that’s not true.
After the conversation about her sexuality ended, Lyons surprised “The View” co-hosts and viewers by revealing, “All my teeth are fake. I paid a lot of money for them,” she joked. “My hair is fake, too. I can take it off. It’s like a hat. It’s not a wig. My eyelashes are fake. I have no eyebrows, and I also have scars all over my skin.
The reason, as he explains, is incontinentia pigmenti – a condition that affects various systems in the body, including the skin. Over time, the disease, also called Bloch-Sulzberger syndrome, can show several symptoms, such as hair loss, small or missing teeth, and eye abnormalities that can eventually lead to vision loss.
‘Stylish with Jenna Lyons’ Producer Makes Her ‘RHONY’ Debut In Season 14
Aside from her health issues, Lyons apparently had trouble fitting in with the other New York housewives when she joined the reboot of the Bravo show. According to Variety, the LoveSeen co-founder had a hard time connecting with viewers, making the ongoing 14th season less interesting in its early stages.
Despite this, the publication gave the mother of one props for her inability to understand the consequences of canceling the group vacation, creating serious drama among her fellow housewives. Additionally, the production team worked wonders with the ice-breaking cocktail party game featured in the first few episodes of the current season.
While the “two truths and a lie” part of the show may have been boring for some viewers, the 2012 Woman of the Year award winner’s contribution during the games stood out for many others. It’s just as interesting to watch Lyons’ co-star Sai De Silva try endlessly to get him on board with many topics, including his public dating life.
The new cast shows passion, inclusiveness, vitality and determination to make their show a success. Other reality series stars include Jessel Taank, Brynn Whitfield, Erin Lichy, and Ubah Hassan.
