The former “Real Housewives of New York City” has accused the network and its celebrity of using her struggles with alcohol to deliberately draw more people to the reality show.
Leah McSweeney Accuses Andy Cohen & Bravo Of Using Her Alcoholism For TV Ratings
McSweeney claims in court papers that Bravo and Cohen knew she was battling alcohol addiction and severe mental health issues when she joined “RHONY” in 2020 but intentionally created an environment that encouraged her vices.

The filing describes producers being almost desperate to get him to start drinking again, with them allegedly trying different ways, such as cajoling him, forcing him, and not letting him go to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
The 41-year-old’s legal representative also claimed that when he stopped drinking, they tried other methods to make him emotionally unstable, hoping for the damage they wanted on camera.
McSweeney, who is outspoken about her mental health issues and also hosts a podcast about addiction, among other topics, declared in court documents that Bravo and Cohen’s actions resulted in her being committed to a psychiatric hospital.
As Page Six reported, the reality star went on to point out that “RHONY” had its highest viewership during an episode called “Scary Island,” in which one of the housewives appeared confused and not thinking clearly.
Recently, another “Real Housewives” star, Brandi Glanville, mentioned in a legal letter that Cohen sexually harassed her. She claims the Bravo producer was clearly drunk and told her she wanted to sleep with another Housewife while thinking about it. He even invited her to supervise FaceTime.
In the letter, sent by Granville’s attorneys Bryan Freedman and Mark Geragos, the reality star stated:
“Mr. Cohen was Ms. Glanville’s boss at the time and exercised complete and total control over her career. This was an extraordinary abuse of power that left Ms. Glanville feeling trapped and disgusted. It is inconceivable that Mr. Cohen would have remained in his position despite his behavior this and harkening back to the bad days of Matt Lauer and NBC News when profits came before people.”

Granville went on to accuse NBCUniversal, Warner Bros., and Shed Media of using her and brutally ending their relationship because of the drama that occurred while she was on “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip.”
In case you missed it, Granville has been accused of sexual assault by her former co-star, Caroline Manzo, who claims the former model forcibly kissed her during the filming of a “Real Housewives” special.
On the matter, the former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star’s attorney wrote, “Over the past year, Ms. Glanville has been subjected to a vicious media campaign based on allegations of sexual misconduct. The false narrative, which NBC and Shed Media seem to have decided to spin, arose from Ms. Glanville’s experience in ‘Last Girl Trip: Morocco.’”
They added that while “the experience was a nightmare for Ms. Glanville,” it was not the first time she had been “used and abused by NBC, Bravo, Warner Bros., and Shed Media.”
“Indeed, Ms. Glanville has long been taken advantage of by institutions to which she is tied personally, professionally, financially, and in the public mind,” they said.
Cohen Has Since Rejected Glanville’s Allegations As ‘Jokes’
In the days following Granville’s allegations, Cohen quickly reached out to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his side. He explained that in the video, he and another Bravo star, Kate Chastain, joked with Glanville, and he suggested that the latter seemed to be part of the joke.

She said, “The video shows Kate Chastain and I very clearly joking with Brandi. It was really meant as a joke, and Brandi’s response clearly told her she was in on the joke. That said, it was completely inappropriate, and I apologize. ”
Afterward, a source close to the situation emphasized that what Cohen said in the clip was intended as a joke. “No one in their right mind would think that anything Andy said in the video was meant to be taken seriously. It’s very clear that everyone is in on the joke,” the insider said.
