‘Rhythm Of The Night’ Singer El DeBarge Arrested On Weapon And Drug Charges 

Top singer El DeBarge won’t be dancing “til dawn” for a while after a run-in with police and an arrest on weapons and narcotics charges. Burbank PD revealed that DeBarge was at a gas station when officers saw his expired license plate, then saw an illegal expandable metal baton in the vehicle.

The stick prompted further investigation, which turned up pepper spray, a substance suspected to be heroin, and revealed DeBarge’s invalid driver’s license. He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia and a lead cane or baton.

DeBarge was previously arrested for felony vandalism in 2018 after he allegedly used a wrench to break a man’s windshield. The “Love Always” singer reportedly got into an argument with a man who backed into an RV and then called police after he smashed the windshield. He was also arrested several times between 2001, 2006, and 2008 on drug charges.

DeBarge recently had a standoff with Burban police in the middle of the night, which resulted in him being busted on weapons and narcotics charges. According to Burbank PD communication with TMZthe “Rhythm of the Night” singer was already at the gas station when the police stopped for gas.

Police initially noticed that DeBarge had expired tags on his car and, when they approached the singer, saw an expandable metal baton just lying in front of the vehicle. Batons are classified as illegal weapons, prompting officers to conduct a thorough search of the car and check for more illegal weapons.

The search resulted in the discovery of pepper spray and suspected narcotics. They also checked DeBarge’s driver’s license and found it was no longer valid. Officers arrested the singer immediately and took him to the station, where he stayed overnight.

DeBarge was later charged with several charges, including possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a lead cane or baton. Burbank PD also revealed that the narcotic substance was suspected to be heroin, which could compound the singer’s charges.

According to public records, officers at the gas station arrested DeBarge shortly before 4 a.m. PT and booked him into jail about 90 minutes later. The singer was later released at 6:15 pm the next day after posting a $25,000 bond. He is due back in court to face the charges in March 2023.
