The 75-year-old media personality’s reflections come after recent controversy over an upcoming biopic detailing his life story.

At the time, actor Pauly Shore announced that he would play the iconic fitness guru in the film, but Simmons went online to distance himself from the project, telling fans he never gave his approval.

Shore claims that he reached out to the instructor of the “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” workout video as he sought to get his blessing on the project.

Speaking about the upcoming biopic, Simmons said on Facebook, “Hey Everyone! You might have heard they might make a movie about me with Pauly Shore. I never gave permission for this movie. So don’t believe everything you read.”

He added, “I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have publicity. I just try to live a calm and peaceful life. Thank you for all your love and support. Richard.”

“While we want to have it [Simmons] involved, we respect his desire for privacy and plan to produce a film that honors him, celebrates him, and tells a dramatic story,” the production company shared in a statement to the news outlet.

They added, “We know he is very private, and we would never want to attack him; however, he was an amazing person who changed the lives of millions, and his impact on the world needs to be recognized.”

Mark Wolper of The Wolper Organization also told the news outlet that the company is in “serious discussions with a lead writer” to develop the film as a “dramatic and heartfelt feature in the vein of ‘Little Miss Sunshine.'”

After Simmons stepped away from the biopic, Shore delivered a message of support to the fitness guru, urging her to keep an “open heart” despite the controversy surrounding her.

Shore’s words came after he received a standing ovation at a sold-out Sundance screening of his 10-minute short film about Simmons despite his refusal to participate in the project.

“Richard, what’s wrong friend? It’s me again, sorry. Listen, watch the short,” said the actor TMZ.

He continued, “Watch with an open heart. Don’t look at it going in like, ‘I don’t want to do this!’ Watch with your heart open, and just be vulnerable. What do you think about it? And if you think it’s still messed up and that doesn’t suit your integrity, then let us know.”

“But in the meantime, we will try to move forward with this part. We will find a writer. Tell us what you think about the short,” he added.
