Months before Rihanna praised Rocky’s parenting skills, she made headlines for her legal drama with former A$AP MOB member A$AP Relli. In September, her former friend filed a defamation suit against the father of two, accusing him of running a smear campaign against her.
The issue between the “Praise the Lord” rapper and Relli began in 2021 when the latter claimed Rocky attacked him with a gun. However, he added his former lawyer friend to the chopping block in 2023, accusing Joe Tacopina of tarnishing his image with a false narrative in his client’s defense.
In his legal filing, Relli alleges Tacopina and Rocky tried to pass off the 2021 shooting as an extortion scheme. He said the defense attorney continued a press campaign, telling various media outlets that he was a “liar, embezzler, and extortionist.”
As stated, the aggrieved artist believes Tacopina’s actions stemmed from Rocky’s instructions and stated that he has suffered many consequences from their defamation scheme. Relli claimed he was the victim of multiple death threats after becoming fodder for public entertainment.
For the pain and ridicule he suffered, the plaintiff sought unspecified compensation in damages. Instead, Rocky’s lawyer labeled the defamation claim a huge mistake on Relli’s part, describing it as a “publicity stunt that will backfire badly.”
