Rihanna Will Headline The 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show

Surely we can expect Rihanna to always have love on the brain. The question on everyone’s mind this morning, however, seems to be whether Rihanna can top the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Social media is abuzz this week over which pop culture figure could land the coveted spot of NFL Super Bowl Halftime Show performer!

Earlier this week, Taylor Swift fans flocked to Twitter following the announcement Apple Music had signed with the NFL for a multi-year sponsorship deal, according to our report on Swift possibly leading the performance published on Friday. The announcement was made in the middle of the night, which ‘Swifties’ are very well known for lately! Swift’s upcoming album is called “Midnights.”

Shortly after excitement from Swift’s fan base took over Twitter, TMZ announced the 32-year-old “All Too Well” singer would not be performing at the upcoming Halftime show.

Enter… Rihanna?

Another respected pop star may be in the running to entertain football fans this winter!

Earlier this morning, TMZ revealed Rihanna was reportedly in talks with the NFL and Roc Nation about headlining the Halftime show.

The outlet later reported a “source with direct knowledge” spoke to TMZ, telling them, “There’s been a lot of talk with Rihanna and her team,” and went on to say, “we don’t know if she’s a firm person, but [their] sources say the NFL may reveal who they have locked up as early as Sunday afternoon via tweet.”

TMZ further revealed they have also been told “there are also talks with other performers, but it’s not either/or- in other words, there will be two performers on stage” a la Shakira and Jennifer Lopez in 2020.

Various popular culture Twitter accounts such as Pop Crave and Pop base also tweeted about TMZ’s announcement.

What Did Rihanna Do This Year?

Rihanna made her first public appearance since giving birth supporting A AP Rocky at Wireless FestivalMEGA

If Rihanna headlines the Super Bowl Halftime Show, it will be the singer’s first major network performance since giving birth to her first child with A$AP Rocky earlier this spring.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcomed a son in May.

It is understood the couple hid their lives during the first few months of parenthood. According to one of our reports, the couple was spotted together in London over the fourth of July weekend.

A$AP Rocky was scheduled to perform at a music festival in London at the time.

RiRi accompanied her man to the festival and watched him perform. He was spotted with his security guard in the middle of the crowd, as he tried to find a suitable spot to watch A$AP perform.

Fans on Twitter who have seen RiRi in public have raved about the new mama.

One fan praised Rihanna for her postpartum look, tweeting, “Rihanna looks amazing after giving birth.”

The couple’s then-two-month-old son was not seen with his parents at any point during the trip, so it’s unclear whether Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have brought him overseas for his dad’s performance at the Wireless Festival at Crystal Palace Park . Before heading to the venue, the pair were also seen together as A$AP Rocky got a pre-show haircut at a barbershop.

Only time will tell if Rihanna can make a headlining appearance on stage at one of popular culture’s biggest moments of the year!

UPDATE: The timing must have worked! Rihanna just posted a photo on her Instagram of a football with the NFL logo, seemingly confirming her performance! Hollywood Reporter also tweet he “has been tapped” to headline the Halftime show.

“Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has exceeded expectations at every turn. Someone born on the small island of Barbados who became one of the most famous artists ever. Homemade in business and entertainment,” Jay-Z said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rihanna to the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show stage,” Seth Dudowsky, Head of NFL Music, added in his own statement. “Rihanna is a once-in-a-generation artist who has been a cultural force throughout her career. We look forward to working with Rihanna, Roc Nation and Apple Music to bring fans another historic Halftime Show.”
