RJ Chaitu is an Indian radio jockey, YouTuber and TV presenter. As a radio jockey, he is famous for hosting two top rated radio shows ‘Zabardasth Masti’ and ‘Midnight Biryani’ on Red FM Hyderabad.

Chaitanya Basava was born on Wednesday, August 2, 1989 (age 32 years; in 2021), and he hails from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Leo. He went to school at TCMA English Medium High School, Vijayawada. He had a difficult childhood after the death of his father. At the age of 12, he started earning money by continuing to do side jobs such as delivering couriers. Since childhood, he talks a lot and participates in various interactive school activities.

He pursued his intermediate studies at Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada. Once, during his college days, he watched a live concert of singer-songwriter Devi Sri Prasad. The singer’s performance and interaction with the crowd attracted Chaitu to become an entertainer. In 2008, he moved to Hyderabad, where he attended Osmania University, meanwhile looking for further opportunities. He also pursued a diploma in animation at Arena Institute, Dilsukhnagar. In an interview, she recounted her busy schedule in Hyderabad and said,
I would go to an animation course in the morning, college in the afternoon and work in a call center at night. I hardly slept during that period of life.”
During that time, he also listened to the radio shows of RJ Raaj and RJ Prateeka, which inspired him to become an RJ.

RJ Chaitu’s father, Malleswara Rao Basava, died during Chaitu’s childhood. After that, his mother, Basava Seshukumari, took on the responsibility of raising Chaitu and his brother, Basava Charan. Basava Charan works at Nischint Social Welfare Trust.

Career
RJ Chaitu worked in various places such as shopping malls, call centers and gift shops, before venturing into the radio industry. He was turned down for radio jockey positions six times because of the accent he had developed during call center training. He got a job in 2009 when RJ Kajal of Red FM Hyderabad asked him to audition for an Outdoor Broadcast (OB) radio show. Taking permission from his office, Chaitu goes for the audition, but he is doubtful about it. At the audition, he was noticed by the head of the program who heard Chaitu on the spot and hired him for the OB show ‘Red on Road’ directly. On 11 September 2009, he started his journey as a radio jockey with Red FM Hyderabad.

Chaitu’s work in the show OB gave her an opportunity to host the show ‘Midnight Biryani’ in 2013. Chaitu gained fans when she came out of character to give a motivational speech to cheer up the callers during her midnight show. The next morning, his audience showered him with immense love. While recalling the incident, in an interview, he said,
The next morning, I received 250 mails from people telling me that they really related to what I said that night…I realized that there are certain emotions that people connect with and need someone to voice them…So if through my medium, I can make someone’s day better, I will continue to do it”
After that, Chaitu made sure to add a daily motivational message at the end of his show. In 2015, he hosted another show titled ‘Zabardast Masti.’ The show went on to win the title of Best Radio Show (Non-Breakfast- Telugu) at the Radio Excellence Awards (ERA) in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019. Additionally, Red FM Hyderabad was awarded the title of Best FM Station South at ERA (2016).

In 2010, he started his career as a TV presenter with the Telugu music channel Maa Music (now Star Maa Music). Later, he presented various popular TV shows such as Gaya Kolej, Vow, Biskut Chai and Must Time Pass.

In 2015, he hosted the IPL from Hyderabad. Apart from hosting various events and TV shows, he also works as a voiceover artist.

Amidst the Covid-19 lockdown, he started the now defunct Youtube channel ‘Chatterbox Chaitu’. Realizing that there is no suitable show that has both games and interviews, he disrupts the space by introducing the show “Challenge with Chatterbox Chaitu” (2021) on his channel. The game show was divided into four parts — one minute, 30 seconds, 20 seconds and 10 seconds — for each challenge, which created curiosity among the audience as well as the celebrities who played it. The first episode of the show on YouTube with Syed Sohel, Akhil Sarthak and Ariyana Glory was a huge hit, garnering one million views within a week.

In 2021, he established a self-titled YouTube channel where he interviews and plays games with his friends, posts random vlogs and takes on food challenges.
In 2022, he appeared as a contestant in the Indian Telugu reality digital series Bigg Boss Non-Stop Telugu (2022), where he joined Team Challengers.

- During the Bigg Boss Non-Stop Telugu (2022) show, RJ Chaitu revealed that he has faced body shaming problems since childhood. He admitted it while nominating famous choreographer Nataraj claiming that the latter had embarrassed himself during the show.
- In an interview, he revealed that his family supported his decision to become an RJ even though they did not know the field. He said,
I started earning very early in life. So, my mom and brother, even though they didn’t know what I was doing, they always believed that I would figure something out. ‘Edo okati chesesthadu le veedu,’ they thought.”
- Recalling a funny incident about his mother, in an interview, Chaitu revealed that he once video called his mother while traveling on a train to show off her popular son to other passengers.
- While revealing her hidden talent in an interview, she said that she is a small-time singer, who sings jingles for her radio channel, Red FM Hyderabad.
- RJ shares his birthday with singer and songwriter Devi Sri Prasad (DSP), who is known for his work in the Telugu entertainment industry. Chaitu is also a loyal fan of DSP. In 2012, DSP presented her with a bracelet on her birthday, which Chaitu identified as her most prized possession in an interview.
