In an interview with Haute Living LA in 2014, Lowe shared that her sobriety journey began with the realization that she needed to change her ways to save her marriage.
The “Parks and Recreation” alum shared that she struggled with monogamy and infidelity until she decided to examine her life. “[I] was trying my first attempt at monogamy, which wasn’t my nature at the time, and I couldn’t do it.” He added, “It made me examine how I live.”
Fast forward six years, Lowe credits Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler for being instrumental in his recovery. Lowe shared that Tyler reached out to him shortly after he began his journey to sobriety to offer words of encouragement and support.
“I was sober for maybe two or three weeks, maybe, and I got a phone call from Steven Tyler, who I don’t know,” he said on Page Six. “He called me and said, ‘I heard you’re in rehab, and I just wanted to say, ‘Hey, you’re going to do your best.'”
Today, the Emmy Award winner is paying it forward by supporting her son, John, who is also on the road to recovery. In a touching moment on live TV last month, Lowe presented John with his five-year sobriety chip and expressed his love and pride for his son’s commitment to living a sober life. “I love you. I’m proud of you,” he told his son.

He put up with my character flaws, as they called them. In peace, the lessons will come if you’re lucky enough to be around as long as I am.”
