Career

Robby received his first electric guitar in 1982. He performed in various bands in college and also interned at a local radio station reading commercials for a local toilet maker. His professional career began when he joined the rock band Beaumonts, later Monarch, in 1985. He met guitarist John Rzeznik and percussionist George Tutuska. They named Takac as lead vocalist and bassist for their new band, “Sex Maggots.” The group’s name was changed to “Goo Goo Dolls” in 1986.

The song “Name” was their first commercial success. Since then, the Goo Goo Dolls have produced several albums and toured regularly. They offered the studio to the public as GCR Audio in 2009. Takac and Brian Schulmeister of the dance music group Amungus formed Amungus in 2003. In Buffalo, New York, Robby founded his own record label, Good Charamel Records.
