Robert De Niro has made it clear that he will not have his thoughts censored, especially what he says about former President Donald Trump.
The veteran actor’s unfiltered statement did not surprise those who followed his career. He has always been a vocal critic of Trump, often expressing his disapproval in interviews and on stage.

The two-time Academy Award winner took to the stage at the Gotham Awards with fire in her eyes, claiming her speech about the former US President was teased before she could deliver it. Despite the obvious interference, De Niro has not been shy about sharing his unfiltered thoughts on Trump, expressing his disgust.
“I just want to say one thing. The beginning of my speech was edited and cut, and I don’t know about it. And I want to read it,” the “Mean Streets” star declared, setting the stage for an unapologetic verbal assault.
In a sharp critique, De Niro said, “The former President lied to us more than 30,000 times during his four years in office. And he’s keeping pace in his current revenge campaign. But with all his lies, he couldn’t hide his soul.”
Amid his Trump rant and lecture on the erosion of truth by “alternative facts,” the father of seven also expressed frustration at the apparent censorship, blaming Apple and the Gotham Awards for interfering with his words. “I don’t want to thank them at all for what they did. How dare they do that, actually,” he declared.
The “Silver Linings Playbook” actor even drew parallels between Trump and John Wayne, accusing the iconic Western actor of supporting land grabs from Native Americans.
This incident is not the first time De Niro has publicly criticized Trump. In May, during a Cannes Film Festival press conference for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “The Godfather Part II” star likened the former President to the film’s antagonist, bluntly labeling him a “st—.”
Without explicitly naming them, he slyly stated, “We all know who I’m talking about. But I will not mention the name. The man is stupid. Imagine if you were smart. Even Hale is smart in many ways.”
Acknowledging his struggles with the character of William Hale, De Niro acknowledged the complexity, describing the dual nature in Hale – “Part of him is sincere. The other part, where he betrays [the Osage people]there is a sense of entitlement.”
The 80-year-old also emphasized the importance of recognizing the rise of white supremacy, stressing the need to recognize the sanctity of evil in society. He then pointed to the awakening fueled by the tragic death of George Floyd, stating, “We are becoming more aware [of that dichotomy] after George Floyd with systemic racism.”

However, De Niro’s outspokenness goes beyond political commentary. In a separate legal battle earlier this month, he was ordered to pay $1.2 million in damages to his former aide, Graham Chase Robinson.
The jury, after just five hours of deliberation after a two-week trial, found the “Cape Fear” actor’s production company, Canal Productions, liable for gender discrimination and retaliation.
The shocking decision came when the assistant accused the Golden Globe Award winner of being an abusive boss, with allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior. In a high-stakes courtroom drama, De Niro passionately denies the allegations against him, brazenly declaring, “It’s all nonsense!” during challenging moments in the seat.
Despite the legal blow, it’s important to note that responsibility for the damage doesn’t land on the star of “The Deer Hunter” personally; instead, the production company bears the brunt of the decision. The assistant sued the company, since she had two jobs under him and with De Niro.
ICYMI, the legal battle was started when the production company sued Robinson, claiming he stole millions of frequent flyer miles, overspent on Uber and dinner, and was an unproductive employee who watched ‘Friends’ extensively during work hours.
