Drones and rockets were targeted on Thursday evening at the Ain al-Asad airbase, which houses US and other international troops in western Iraq, and several explosions were heard inside the base, two security sources said.
The Iraqi military said it sealed off the area around the base and began a search operation.
It was not yet clear whether the attack caused death or damage, sources said.

The United States has 2,500 troops in Iraq, and another 900 in neighboring Syria, on a mission to advise and assist local forces in the fight against Islamic State, which in 2014 seized large swaths of territory in both countries.
Ain al-Asad air base is located in western Anbar province.
