Together, they have two sons, Zahan Mistry and Firoz Mistry. On 4 September 2022, her husband died in a road accident while he was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

Rohiqa Chagla’s paternal grandfather, Mahommedali Currim Chagla (popularly known as M.C. Chagla), was an Indian freedom fighter who served in the Jawaharlal Nehru Cabinet. M.C. Chagla served as the chief justice of the Bombay High Court from 1947 to 1958. He was also a member of the Muslim League. However, he disassociated himself with the league after its leader Muhammad Ali Jinnah began fighting for a separate Muslim state. In 1985, a statue of her grandfather was unveiled and placed outside the Chief Justice’s Court in the Bombay High Court. The inscription on the statue reads,
A great judge, a great citizen, and, above all, a great human being.”
Rohiqa Chagla’s father-in-law, Pallonji Mistry, was a construction business tycoon.

Facts/Trivia
- After Cyrus Mistry was removed from his position as the organisation’s chairman in the Tata Group, he was involved in a legal battle with the Tatas. At that time, it was Rohiqa Chagla’s family who supported Mistry in his boardroom battle. Apparently, the legal framework of Cyrus’ case against the Tata Group was laid by Rohiqa’s father, Iqbal Chagla.
- The last person that her husband, Cyrus Mistry, met before meeting with the fatal car accident was the Parsi religious leader Guru Dasturji Khurshed.
- Reportedly, Rohiqa Chagla’s original surname is not ‘Chagla’ but ‘Merchant.’ Their surname ‘Chagla’ was adopted by her grandfather, M. C. Chagla, after his great-grandfather’s pet name ‘Chagla’ (which means favourite in the Kutchi language) as her grandfather hated his surname ‘Merchant’ due to its association with money.
