“A Nightmare on Elm Street” is definitely a movie to be scared of because it traumatizes Rooney Mara in real life. The actress almost quit acting after playing Nancy Holbrook in the 2010 horror/mystery remake.

The 37-year-old, who stars alongside Jackie Earle Haley, Katie Cassidy, and Kyle Gallner, also stated that his dislike of the film helped him decide what roles he wanted to play in the future.
He recalled the decision to turn down roles unless he connected with them or “felt like he had to” in the future. Even though he made his decision after “Elm Street,” those decades-old principles still follow him now.
He said, per Insider“After making that movie, I kind of decided, ‘Okay, I’m not going to act anymore unless it’s something I feel like doing.’” Following her decision, Mara starred in Fincher’s “The Social Network,” which she really liked.

He also agreed to work on another directorial film, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” Although he equally enjoyed being a part of it, it was more demanding than “The Social Network.” The actor explained that he had to prove that he could hold the role during the audition.
However, Fincher put up with him and “really took him under his wing.” The director also made him feel more comfortable than he did in his former role. She says, “He became my mentor in many ways. He was very careful to make sure that I knew that I had a voice and that my opinion mattered.”
