Roopa Ganguly is an Indian politician, former actress and playback singer. She is famous for playing the role of ‘Draupadi’ in the epic Indian television series “Mahabharat” (1988).

Roopa Ganguly was born on Friday, 25 November 1966 (age 53 years; as in 2019) in Kalyani, Kolkata. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. She did her schooling from Beltala Girls’ High School in Kolkata and went to Jogamaya Devi College to pursue her Bachelor of Science. After completing her studies, Roopa did several Bengali TV serials.

Roopa started her acting career by doing several Bengali TV serials. In 1986, she gained recognition after appearing in the TV series “Muktabandha.” He made his film debut in 1988 with Prabhat Roy’s Bengali film “Prateek.” In the same year, he appeared in BR Chopra’s “Mahabharat”. She gained widespread popularity by playing the role of ‘Draupadi’ in a TV serial.

Political career
Roopa Ganguly entered politics in 2015 by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the 2016 West Bengal Assembly Elections, Ganguly lost from Howrah North to Trinamool Congress candidate Laxmi Ratan Shukla. In the same year, he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in place of the cricketer, Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had resigned from the party.

Controversy
- In February 2017, Roopa Ganguly and then BJP National Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya were summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department for questioning in the high-profile Jalpaiguri child-trafficking case, after the main accused in the child-trafficking racket alleged Ganguly’s involvement in the case. .
- Roopa Ganguly got into controversy for making controversial statements about women’s safety in West Bengal. While attacking Mamta Banerjee’s government, Ganguly said, “Send their (Trinamool workers) wives and daughters to Bengal… If they can survive there for 15 days without being raped, tell me.” This sparked outrage among the West Bengal government and an FIR was filed against him.
- Ganguly once again created controversy for revealing many shocking aspects of his personal life when he appeared on the popular TV show “Sach Ka Saamna.” Roopa admitted to having an affair outside her marriage and also admitted to being asked for sexual favors in return for roles in Bollywood. He also revealed that he once got a call on his landline, offering Rs. 50,000 to spend the night with him.
