Rosie O’Donnell Clears The Air On Anne Heche’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Accusation

Following the unfortunate death of Anne Heche, an allegation came to light linked to one of Heche’s appearances on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” and her sexuality.

The allegations were directed at then-host Rosie O’Donnell, who recently appeared on “The Howard Stern Show” to address them, revealing that she was as shocked as everyone about the allegations.

Wondering if it felt “weird” for O’Donnell to leave her wildly popular show, Howard Stern asked and also asked if she lost any friendships along the way with the show’s end. He described her as the “queen of everything” who could make stars or break them. This led O’Donnell to say he never really saw it that way, despite many people calling it that.

She then recalled a video in which Heche said the TV personality harassed her in the dressing room, and she pointed out that the late actress believed she could “break” people. The Daytime Emmy Award winner is “at a loss” about the “Six Days, Seven Nights” actor’s death, and she also shared how often she and the deceased hung out, which wasn’t very much.

Heche appeared on her show twice, had lunch with her once, and she and her then-partner Ellen DeGeneres visited O’Donnell’s home in Miami, where she swam in the pool. The American comedian said he always felt sorry for the “Another World” star, given his split with DeGeneres, the obstacles he faced when his career failed, and his horrific experience of sexual abuse as a child.

While Heche was in a coma before his death, O’Donnell was admittedly “obsessed” with the situation, and he would wake up every morning and remember the then comatose patient. Shortly after the tragic death, the television producer was told about an episode of Heche’s podcast, created about a year earlier, in which he accused O’Donnell of not allowing him to say anything “gay” on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show .”

The “Star Search” star detailed the contents of the video revealing that Heche was “in a state of insanity” or possibly high when she made the claims. He also mentioned that the late movie star claimed that he vowed to ruin his career and “blackball” him if he said anything “gay” on the program.

While watching the video, O’Donnell was shocked and immediately called his nephew, who was responsible for his tapes all along. He brought up Heche’s past interviews from their first meeting, where they didn’t discuss his relationship with DeGeneres. However, in the second and final interview, they talk about their romance anonymously.

O’Donnell believes Heche is confused and admits it breaks his heart “a little bit” to learn that the “Donnie Brasco” actor carried that impression about himself for more than two decades.

Before the “Celebrity Detox” author came clean about Heche’s accusations, the late podcast host appeared on the “Behind The Velvet Rope” Podcast to discuss sexuality and the support needed for the LGBTQ community. She also talked about an episode of her podcast where she recounted her experience on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,” which involved her accusations about O’Donnell coming into her dressing room and telling her not to talk about DeGeneres or gay love.

Heche believed the 60-year-old was trying to stay “closed,” and he confirmed it, surprising the interviewer. He also pointed out that there were only gays and straights at the time, which naturally caused “puzzles” and confusion.

Earlier last month, while Heche was still in a coma, O’Donnell shared a TikTok update about previously mocking the now-deceased actress after an awkward interview with Barbara Walters in 2001. As Page Six reported, she admitted that she couldn’t stop thinking about the “Volcano” actor’s car accident and “how terrible it all was,” which made him feel bad about his past mockery.

The “SMILF” actress referenced when Heche opened up to Walters about creating a “fantasy world” as a refugee growing up and “having a relationship with aliens.” O’Donnell then said, hinting that the “Back to Heaven” star might be under the influence, “If we have an honest discussion about drunk driving, we find out how common it is, and that’s scary, right? ?”

While he hoped Heche was fine and survived, he also voiced his belief in the miracle that no one was killed during the incident despite how significant the fire was.
