Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s finances will change if he loses his appeal of a defamation suit in which he was ordered to pay $148 million to two Atlanta election workers he accused of vote fraud.
Giuliani’s lawyer said Thursday in a Washington, DC courtroom that the initial $43 million in damages sought by Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Andrea “Shaye” Moss, would be the “civil equivalent of a death sentence.”
“If you give them what they ask for, that will be the end of Mr. Giuliani,” attorney Joe Sibley said of his 79-year-old client, according to several report.
After two days of deliberations, a DC jury ultimately awarded the couple $75 million in punitive damages and $20 million to both individually for emotional distress.

Moss was also awarded just under $17 million for defamation, while Freeman got nearly $16.2 million.
Now, “America’s mayor,” who fended off another attempt to drain his finances through a multimillion-dollar lawsuit alleging he stiffed payments to lawyers and accountants, has vowed to appeal the decision, pointing to the “absurdity of the numbers” given to the plaintiff.
“Do I have $43 million? Nope. Am I going to fight this case to the death? Yes,” Giuliani told The Post. “I’d rather die poor on my principles than surrender to the destruction of my country that I love so much.”

He also claimed the suit was “part of a Biden attack that started some time ago to see what they could do to intimidate Trump’s lawyers, Trump supporters,” adding that one of the lawyers representing Freeman and Moss, Mike Gottlieb, was “good one. friend Hunter Biden.”
Gottlieb, a former White House associate counsel for President Barack Obama, was working at the Boies Schiller Flexner law firm at the same time as the second son at the time and was included in email exchanges on his abandoned laptop discussing a possible deal with an oligarch Romania.
Asked about a recent $550,000 tax lien reported by the New York Times that the IRS placed on his Palm Beach, Fla., condominium, Giuliani said: “I don’t trust anything the Biden administration does, this is not the United States government. .”

“The discovery went on for about a year and a half and included thousands and thousands of documents, including me sitting for a deposition and not taking the Fifth Amendment.”
The former New York City mayor listed his longtime Manhattan coop for $6.5 million the same month, which the FBI raided in 2021 to seize his electronic devices, potentially as part of an investigation into his failure to register as a foreign agent for Ukraine in the run-up to the 2020 election.
In his ruling, Howell said Giuliani had given “mere lip service” to his legal obligations and to comply with evidentiary requests from lawyers for Georgia election workers about his personal communications and finances.

“The disparity of the numbers only underscores the absurdity of the entire proceeding, where I was not allowed to offer a single piece of evidence for the defense, of which I have plenty,” Giuliani told reporters outside court.
“I’m pretty sure when this case goes to a fair tribunal, it will be overturned so quickly it will make your head spin, and the ridiculous numbers that just came in will help it.”
