Ruparani Tirkey is an Indian lawn bowler who was the captain of India’s quartet team that won the gold medal in the four women’s lawn bowling event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Commonwealth Games
In 2010, he participated in the Commonwealth Games held in India and placed 4th in triples. In 2014, she again took part in the Commonwealth Games, held in Glasgow, Scotland and was ranked 9th in triples and 14th in quads. In 2018, she participated in the Commonwealth Games held in Queensland, Australia, but the Women’s four lost to Malta in the quarter-finals. In 2022, he qualified for the finals at the Commonwealth Games. In the semi-final held between India and New Zealand, India won 17-9. He is working as Director of Sports & Youth Affairs in West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand.
Asia Pacific Bowling Championship
In 2009, he played in the Asia Pacific Bowling Championships, held in Malaysia, and won bronze medals in triples and quads. In 2019, he again won bronze in triples at the Asia Pacific Bowling Championships held in Australia.
International Bowling Tournament
In 2020, he participated in triples and fours in the World Outdoor Bowls Championship held in Queensland, Australia.
Facts/Trivia
- Rupa was a kabaddi player before he became a lawn bowler. In an interview, he said that he first got interested in grass bowls when he received a good stipend after winning his first match. He also said that one of his relatives suggested he take up the individual game.
- In an interview, he expressed his feelings after winning the semi-final at CWG 2022, and said,
We cannot express our feelings with words. We have fought as a team and now our journey does not end here. We have to play the same way against South Africa and do what has never been done before.”
- In an interview, their team manager Anju Luthra talked about how proud he was of his team and said,
I am like their mother, I have been attached to them since 2009. It has been a long journey, they are like my daughter, my family. Getting a medal is important, because when we come back to India, the federation always says ‘what have you done?’, so we want to prove that we are no less than any other game.”
- In a statement he gave after qualifying for the finals at the CWG, he expressed his disappointment and said that even after winning the gold medal at the CWG 2022 he is not as popular as MS Dhoni in their hometown Ranchi.
