RuPaul has responded to the controversial anti-drag bill that was recently signed into law by Tennessee governor Bill Lee.
The reality star, who is the world’s most famous drag queen, has shared her dismay at the Republican’s decision to ban drag performances in front of children, among other things. The governor also signed a bill banning gender-affirming health care for children and another drag show blocking the state.
RuPaul Calls Republicans ‘Bullies’ For Making Such Controversial Rules
Fans who follow RuPaul on social media are used to her sharing honest opinions about the drag community and her experiences as a member. So when Lee launched a seeming attack on the tribe, the 62-year-old made sure he dealt with it without a word.
In a video dedicated to the cause, the “Drag Race” star poses in front of an American flag wearing a pink blazer and leopard print combo. Without missing a beat, he began:
“Hey, look there! A classic distraction technique, diverting our attention from the real issues they have been elected to office to focus on – jobs, health care, [and] keeping our children safe from harm in their own schools. But we know that bullies are inefficient at solving real issues.”

RuPaul notes that bullies look for “easy targets” because it gives them “an impact,” thinking that “our love, our light, our laughter, and our joy are signs of weakness. But they’re wrong because that’s our strength.”
The model asked the audience not to get things twisted and to avoid distractions because “drag queens are freakish movement Marines.” She ended the Instagram clip with a call to action for her followers to register to vote and “get these stunt queens out of office,” reminding them that “social media posts are never as good as a registered vote.”
Along with receiving hundreds of thousands of likes, the clip also got people talking when one person commented, “Say it, Ru! Chasing women’s rights to abortion and dragging entertainers…while doing nothing to stop the rest of Uvalde…fear is misplaced.”
A second person credited RuPaul for speaking up, and drag performer Honey Davenport wrote, “You are truly inspiring, your voice and your call to action in these scary times means so much to me. Votes are so much stronger than posts, but so are these posts gives me a lot of hope.”
As the San Diego-born star focused on the Tennessee bill, a fan reminded him and other commentators of the incident that may have prompted Lee’s action. In case you missed it, Daily Mail reported last year that a clip of a performance at a “family-friendly” drag queen show had caused outrage on social media.
The Twitter video begins with a drag queen, dressed in a leotard, doing a forward role on a catwalk before spreading their legs on the ground. The perpetrator then pushed their breasts forward, showing no concern for the boy who sat a few feet away.
“This is what a ‘family friendly’ drag show looks like. Drag queens spread their legs for little kids to pinch them,” the poster captioned the footage. Several people condemned the act in response, with one claiming that it was “straight pedophilia”.
Ariana Grande Returns To “RuPaul’s Drag Race” For The Latest Season
The Blast observed last December that RuPaul spared no expense in giving viewers and contestants an unforgettable experience with “Drag Race.” In fact, when a “meet the queen” promo and video for the pageant’s 15th season was released online, it went viral.
That follows the opening of singer Ariana Grande as a guest judge for this season’s double debut episode. She is scheduled to appear alongside RuPaul and the two main judges – Michele Visage and Ross Matthews.
The appearance is the “Thank You, Next Time” hitmaker’s second time as a “Drag Race” guest judge. He previously starred in the ninth season in 2015, making his return one of the most anticipated by viewers.
“It’s time to get him back! He is at a different point in his career now, compared to the first time he was invited as a guest. Very excited,” claimed a fan in response. A second viewer noted that Grande’s love for the girls was evident in her “attitude and interactions” with them outside of the show.
The competition series premiered on MTV instead of the usual VH1, and fans got exactly what they expected from the debut.
