Career
Russell Hodgkinson re-enlisted in the Coast Guard for the rest of his service, joining the crew of the USCG Cutter Sassafras in Hawaii in 1986. In 1981, he starred with Mercedes McCambridge in a theatrical production of ‘Harvey’ at the Fort Bragg Playhouse. He studied at the Honolulu Screen Actors Workshop in his spare time before moving to Long Beach, California, where he met his other important actress, Shelley Poncy. He appeared on ‘The Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour’ from 1983 to 1984.
In 1992, the couple moved to Louisiana, where they eventually became stars in the New Orleans organization. Russell maintained his theater career and became very active in the independent cinema scene after moving to Seattle in 2003. He appeared in Leverage and Grimm before being cast as “Doc” in the Sci-Fi original series ‘Z Nation’ in 2014. He appeared as Andrew Jackson with the Louisiana Living History Company.
