Music executive and businessman Russell Simmons has been sued for alleged sexual assault and battery by a former Def Jam executive.
In the lawsuit, the former Def Jam employee, known as Jane Doe, claims that Simmons raped her in his apartment more than 25 years ago, adding that he stopped her career by systematically harassing her in the 1990s.

According to reports, the alleged victim revealed that the sexual assault incident first occurred when Simmons invited her to his New York apartment under the guise of needing a new approved video.
According to the lawsuit, Simmons began by trying to “wrestle” her to “look playful.” However, “the situation escalated to aggression” with the 66-year-old laying her on the bed.
“Ms. Doe repeatedly told Mr. Simmons to let him go, but he refused,” the court document said. “Mr. Simmons proceeded to rape her.”
According to the lawsuit, Jane Doe suffered frequent panic attacks, despair, and anxiety following the alleged assault, making it difficult for her to perform her executive duties. He finally resigned in 1997 and worked as an executive producer for commercial and film production businesses.

The record executive also allegedly harassed his accuser in the offices at Def Jam, multiple times, with the lawsuit stating that “[Simmons] would sit on her desk, lean on her, aggressively invade her personal space while making innuendos, suggestions and sexual remarks, and rub the front of her pants.”
“Mr. Simmons would follow Ms. Doe to the door or block her path to prevent her from opening it again,” the court document reads.
Simmons has yet to respond to the allegations.
