Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu revealed his country has increased its military drone production over the past year, but it still needs to overcome some technological issues, according to footage published by his department Saturday.
Russia frequently used drones during the two-year war in Ukraine, but often used cheap Iranian-made Shahed UAVs.
“The production capacity that has been created allows us to solve most of the tasks we face today,” Shoigu said during a tour of a drone production facility in the central Russian region of Udmurtia.
During a meeting with officials, Shoigu said that Russia still needs to address issues regarding electronic warfare and the use of artificial intelligence in drones.
In recent months, Moscow has hinted that it has ramped up drone production as it looks to break a battlefield standoff with the Ukrainian military.

Ukraine’s military leaders say drones will be key to gaining an advantage in the ongoing war, but military analysts say both sides’ reliance on the weapon has hampered their country’s military’s ability to gain ground.
