Russia hit Ukraine with 40 missiles and drones on Saturday, according to reports.
The airstrikes began at 5am local time and lasted for three hours, sending residents scrambling to air raid shelters in the southeast of the country, including the cities of Kyiv and Lviv, and in the north.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched 37 missiles and three drones.
The Ukrainian military was able to shoot down eight missiles, and reported that many airstrikes missed their targets.
“More than 20 launched air strike weapons did not reach their targets due to widespread electronic warfare countermeasures,” the Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement on social media.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement on Telegram that its airstrikes had hit “facilities of the Ukrainian military industrial complex” that produce gunpowder, drones and other war materials.
