Russian TV hacked to broadcast Zelensky’s speech vowing to liberate Crimea

Pro-Ukraine saboteurs hacked Russian television channels in Crimea overnight to broadcast a speech by President Volodymyr Zelensky vowing to liberate the occupied peninsula.

In a further insult to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime, the comedian renamed all 20 channels in Crimea’s IPTV network “Putin is an ad—head,” as seen in a video shared online.

In his brief address to the people of Crimea, which has lived under Moscow’s control since the territory was illegally annexed in 2014, Zelensky promised that the colonial presence there “will not last forever.”

“Ukraine will return its territory, our people,” he said. “We will not leave anyone to the colonists.”

The hackers also posted a pre-recorded message from General Valerii Zaluzhny, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, followed by words from Lt. General Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukrainian military intelligence.

“Crimea will be returned,” Budanov said. “Crimea is ours. There should be no Russia. It is ours and no one else’s.”

The embarrassing hacking attack was confirmed by Oleg Kryuchkov, an official in the Kremlin-backed administration of Crimea.

“Several Crimean Internet providers have been hacked by the enemy,” Kryuchkov wrote on his Telegram channel. “Technical services are working on this. All problems will be solved in the near future.”

Kryuchkov blamed the breach on Ukraine’s Psychological Information and Special Operations Center.

Separately, Ukrainian hackers working with cyber experts at the Security Service of Ukraine also disrupted the website of the Russian Ministry of Labor and Social Security and allegedly obtained a large amount of confidential information. reported RBC-Ukraine.

This is not the first time that Ukrainian hackers have gained an advantage in the information war waged in Crimea.

In June, the broadcasts of two Russian cable channels were interrupted by a video from Ukraine’s Defense Ministry showing soldiers staring into the camera while putting their fingers to their lips

The terrifying footage was accompanied by a message in Ukrainian that read: “The show is like silence. There will be no announcement that ‘it begins.’”

In February, two Crimean radio stations were hacked for broadcasting the Ukrainian national anthem, followed by a message from Budanov, who vowed that Kyiv’s army would liberate all occupied territories and destroy “every traitor to Ukraine.”
