Always and forever! Naya Rivera continues to hold a special place in our hearts.

The late actress rose to fame starring in the critically acclaimed drama series, “Glee.” Thanks to his popular music shows and various famous works, the performer’s name continues to echo throughout the hall of fame.

However, the California native is loved for more than his accomplishments. Take it from her ex-husband Ryan Dorsey, who paid tribute to the late actress on her 36th birthday.

On January 12, the “Justified” star reminded the world of his ex-wife in a beautifully written Instagram post. Today would have marked Rivera’s 36th trip around the sun if death had not come three years ago.

The Virginian’s social media updates included three photos of the California native and the former couple’s adorable angel, a son named Josey. In the first and second slides, the late entertainer donned a mini coat dress designed with a yellow and navy blue pattern.

Both photos capture the “And the Winner Is Not” star beaming at her son, whose head barely grazes the top of his mother’s famously long legs. Dressed casually in a gray hoodie with matching trousers, the youngster looked radiant as he posed with Woody toy from the “Toy Story” franchise.

The final slide shows the mother and daughter wearing matching all-black outfits as they enjoy a relaxing day at home. Dorsey captioned this heartwarming photo with a poignant message about overcoming grief. The 39-year-old wrote:

“It’s getting a little easier with every little bit of time that goes by to look at the pictures…but I still don’t have the answers to the questions why our sweet child asks from time to time. I never will.”

The Virginia native, who was married to Rivera from 2014 to 2018, admitted that she and Josey are “doing the best” they can to get through life without the family’s beloved parents. Reflecting on the lessons he’s learned along the way, the father-of-one ended his bittersweet note with words of inspiration:

“If you’re reading this, no matter what you’re going through, take a moment to be thankful that you’re still here on this journey. I know some days are harder than others to bounce back, but keep going we just have to keep going.”

Despite the significant pain, Dorsey chose to carry on with positive energy and took the time to encourage others in similar situations to heal. Naturally, his heartfelt message touched many people who showed appreciation and concern in the comments.

The majority sent love and well wishes to the family while others sobbed about how much they missed the “Step Up: High Water” cast. Plus, celebrity friends showed their support with thoughtful comments. Top of the list are celebrity makeup artist Jo Baker and hairstylist Clyde Haygood.

Baker noted that he and Haygood had reminisced about Rivera the day before Dorsey’s emotional post. The famous make-up artist wrote: “This is the last time I see these two together. Clyde and I talked about this day yesterday. Always in our hearts.”

Family of Late Actor Wins Their Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Rivera died in 2020 after drowning in Lake Piru. She was with her son Josey when the tragic incident happened. After his death, the family of the ALMA Award winner filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the party they believe was responsible.

As previously shared by The Blast, the list includes Ventura County, the United Water Conservation District, and Parks and Recreation Management. The establishment was accused of failing to warn visitors about the dangers of the lake and not providing adequate safety measures.

In their defense, the district disclosed that Rivera refused to wear a life jacket. However, they finally settled with the deceased’s family by offering monetary compensation in 2022. According to a statement issued by Amjad M. Khan, the actress’ relatives were “very happy” with the decision.

“Through this settlement, Josey will receive appropriate compensation for having to endure the drowning of his beloved mother in Lake Piru,” said the lawyer’s statement. Khan also envisioned that the money would be used to improve the young boy’s life.
