Iconic actor Ryan O’NealA death certificate has been released, showing the actor died of congestive heart failure.
As we reported, O’Neal died earlier in December, with his son, Patrick O’Neal, announcing his father’s passing on social media with a heartfelt tribute to his legacy as a Hollywood star.
According to the death certificate obtained by Explosionthe 82-year-old died of “congestive heart failure” after years of “cardiomyopathy”.

According to Mayo Clinic, “Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle that makes it harder for the heart to pump blood around the body.” The website states that the disease “can lead to heart failure.” The famous entertainer was hospitalized in St. John’s Medical in Los Angeles when he died.
The death certificate did not list other factors that contributed to his death. As for his final resting place, the document says he was buried at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park.
O’Neal’s son announced his death on December 8, along with a lengthy tribute to his late sweetheart. He stated that his father died with his loved ones at the age of 82.
Patrick wrote, “So this is the hardest thing I’ve ever said, but here we go. My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team at his side supporting him and loving him like he would us. This is so hard for my wife and I. I’m Summer, but I’ll share a few feelings to give you an idea of what a great man he is.”

The actor continued, “My dad Ryan O’Neal has always been my hero. I looked up to him and he was always larger than life. When I was born in 1967, my father was already a TV star on Peyton Place. It was there that he met my mother Leigh Taylor-Young, and about 9 months later (give or take a night or two) I was born.”
O’Neal is best known for his role on the nighttime soap opera “Peyton Place.” He appeared in such notable Hollywood films as the 1972 romcom, “What’s Up Doc?” with legendary singer Barbara Streisand, and the 1973 crime comedy, “Paper Moon,” in which she appeared with her daughter, Tatum O’Neal.

O’Neal’s son Patrick’s heartfelt tribute included a touching statement about the legacy his father left behind. The 56-year-old also claimed that his father’s popularity with the name Ryan was the reason behind the first name’s “growth spurt”.
“My father became an international movie star with Love Story in the early 1970s, a decade he destroyed by starring in films such as What’s Up, Doc?, Paper Moon, Barry Lyndon, A Bridge Too Far, The Main Event, and Driver,” wrote Patrick.
He continued, “He’s a Hollywood legend. Period. The growth spurt of the first name Ryan can be traced back to my dad. That’s a fact. He was Rodney Harrington on Peyton Place 3 days a week (he starred in 500 shows over 5 years) and of course the name Ryan peaked after Love Story (the movie that saved Paramount Studios and made my dad a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame).”
Tatum O’Neal Says Father’s Death Caused Him ‘Great Sadness’
O’Neal Tatum’s daughter paid tribute to her father with a heart-wrenching photo of a scene from the movie, “Paper Moon,” in which they starred together. She posted the image on Instagram, along with the caption, “I love you dad.”
Tatum previously spoke about his father’s death, revealing it had caused him “great sadness.” During the interview with People magazine, he said, “I feel very sad about my father’s passing. He means the world to me. I love him so much and know he loves me too. I will miss him forever and I feel very lucky that we ended up doing well.”
O’Neal had four children during his lifetime. He has his daughter Tatum and son Griffin with his first wife, Joanna Moore. The actor later had a son, Patrick, with his second wife, Leigh Taylor-Young, and then his youngest son, Redmond, with actress Farrah Fawcett.
