Nearly 200 passengers had to be evacuated from the Buzz Boeing 737 MAX 8 plane at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport early Sunday after the cabin filled with smoke as the pilot started the engine as it prepared for takeoff.
Buzz is a partner of Poland-based Irish discount airline Ryanair, which operated a diverted flight that was preparing to depart for Krakow when the emergency began.
Video montage of the incident posted on X shows a chaotic scene unfolding as passengers rush out of the plane through the inflatable emergency slide placed at the plane’s door.
Several emergency vehicles surrounded the plane on the snowy runway as first responders and airport workers helped passengers evacuate, but no injuries were reported in the incident.

In another segment of the video, the cabin is seen smoking as its 189 panicked passengers grab their belongings and line up to escape the plane.
As the cabin slowly filled with smoke, passengers reportedly had to force the flight crew to open the cabin door and let them out.
According to AirLive, a passenger described the incident as “very traumatic.”
In a statement, a Ryanair spokeswoman said Buzz engineers were inspecting the plane and a replacement plane had been diverted to Arlanda to take passengers to their original destination.
“A Buzz plane this morning (Dec 10) at Arlanda reported smoke in the cabin. As a precaution, passengers were evacuated and returned to the terminal,” part of the statement read.
“We sincerely apologize to the affected passengers for these delays which we are doing everything to minimize,” the spokesperson said.
“Drink vouchers have been issued to passengers at Arlanda.”
According to reports, passengers had to raise their voices at the cabin crew before they opened the cabin door to allow them to exit. flightbrk/X
Ryanair has courted controversy in the past and has often made headlines for unusual incidents on board its aircraft.
In July, passengers on a Ryanair flight to Italy were stranded on a runway without air conditioning in temperatures of more than 100 degrees when their flight was delayed for more than 10 hours, causing several to pass out.
Then in September Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary was thrown a pie by environmental protesters in Brussels.
