Sam Neill Stated That He Didn’t Want To Leave The “Peaky Blinders”

The final season of Peaky Blinders premiered on Netflix on June 10, 2022. For six seasons, viewers followed the Irish group known as the Peaky Blinders, directed by Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy), as they made their way through the underbelly of Birmingham.

In the first two seasons, they were introduced to Inspector Chester Campbell, portrayed by Sam Neill, as the main antagonist of the show. Winston Churchill sent Campbell to deal with a shipment of weapons stolen from the Birmingham Small Arms Company facility. While successfully completing his mission, he gains a personal vendetta against Shelby and her team. He intends to kill Shelby, but he is killed by Shelby’s aunt Polly, portrayed by Helen McCrory, before he can do so.

Sam Neill is killed in “Peaky Blinders”

Neill was killed off in the series, but the show’s creator, Steven Knight, claimed that the performer did not want to leave. During the season five premiere, the creator discussed the moment he told the cast about his ambitions for Campbell. Despite Neill’s talent, he thought his character’s plot had reached its conclusion.

“He was in New Zealand, and I realized I couldn’t email him the script, so I called him.” So I called him and told him, ‘Sam, this character is great, he’s brilliant.’ “And he answered, ‘I don’t want to die,'” the creator said.

He went on to say that he told Neill, “like a coward,” that he would think about Campbell’s murder. Despite what he told the actor, Knight knew Campbell had to die, but he warned him out of respect for Neill. After a week, the writer called Neill again and told him the deal was done, and the actor said, “great, great.”

Sam Neill Says He Can’t Attend The Show

Many fans predicted that the actor would make an unexpected comeback after his character was killed at Epsom Racecourse in the second season. Neill discussed his hypothesis and experience on the show during an interview with RadioTimes.com.

“I love Peaky Blinders and trust Steve [Knight’s] very good writing.” “I’m a big fan of Cillian, Helen and Paul Anderson [Arthur Shelby]and it’s always great to have them again because I miss them,” the actor said.

He later discussed his time on Peaky Blinders, noting that despite filming in “some really bleak places in the world,” he had a great time and learned a lot. Neill’s role is evil, but he likes to portray it. Although he did not explicitly respond to the idea, many fans interpreted his response to suggest that he would return to the program. Shelby and his Birmingham team, however, are not out of the woods yet. They will make their final and final appearance in a film, which Knight has announced will be released in 2021.
