Savannah Chrisley talks candidly about her uncertainty about marriage and the impact of her parents’ incarceration.
Ever since his parents—Todd & Julie—reported themselves to federal prison earlier this year to serve time on charges of bank and wire fraud and tax evasion, the podcaster has undoubtedly felt pressure to figure out his future from all sides. Still busy putting her life on hold, the reality star on Tuesday expressed more concerns about marriage than having children.
Savannah Chrisley Says The Thought Of Marriage Scares Her More Than Children
In the latest episode of her podcast, “Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley,” the 25-year-old beauty opened up about her feelings and discussed her fear of starting a family. Broaching the sensitive topic with guest Lindsay Ell, he admitted that he was hesitant to tie the knot.
Chrisley then points to the societal pressure to conform to traditional expectations to marry and have children while living in the southern regions of the United States. In his words:
“It’s very difficult because in the south too, you experience things like this [perspective of], ‘You should be married. You should have children. And I’d say the thought of marriage scares me more than children.”

As the conversation progressed, the Belmont University alum described the difference she feels between having children and being married. Finally, he gives more reasons why he is afraid of the latter. Savannah states:
“I don’t know if it’s possible—and this is going to sound so bad, but I think maybe because with children, you control them, you know?… So if I have children, it’s my responsibility to take care of them, and I make sure they getting from point A to point B. All these things.”
“But with marriage, it’s like you give a part of yourself to someone, so they have the ability to hurt you. It’s a strange thing that I’m still trying to wrap my mind around,” he added.
The “Chrisley Knows Best” star previously expressed how she felt like she couldn’t live life to the fullest while her parents were serving prison terms. He told his brother Chase Chrisley’s fiancee Emmy Medders on Unlocked last December that he “can’t go on living” in his mind. He said:
“Until I know that they will be there, I cannot get married. I can’t have children. … [But I know] they will eventually be a part of it one day.”
However, despite his parents’ absence, the actor revealed that his father had urged him to live his life to the fullest even though he was physically unable to attend due to his prison sentence.
Savannah Chrisley Is at a Crossroads About Being a Family Woman
While her parents were incarcerated, the TV personality took on the role of caretaker for her niece Chloe, 10—who her parents adopted from her brother Kyle in 2016 and younger brother Grayson, 17.
This kind gesture, however, left him struggling with conflicting emotions. Earlier last month, The Blast noted that the blonde beauty expressed her feelings about taking on the responsibility.
“I’m in the anger part of the sadness right now. I’m just angry at everything. And also, after taking the children. I was like, ‘Okay. Do I really want children? do I You know, see how much this has affected us?’” he said.
That said, the TV star admitted her reaction came from a “place of anger” and explained she wasn’t squeamish about stepping into an important role for children. Savannah also said she enjoys spending quality time with her two adorable children who she considers her “everything.”
Continuing, she emphatically revealed, “I try to be a good adult figure in their lives, but it’s really hard to be 25 and have two kids and try to figure out what’s best for them because usually you’re going to grow up — like you’re going to grow up.” one to two to three to four.
