School board member fires off ‘sarcastic’ Nazi salute to ‘dictator’ district president — he resigns immediately

An Ohio school board member gave a Nazi salute and shouted expletives at the board’s president for “acting like a dictator” during a recent meeting, moments before he resigned.

During a meeting on Tuesday, September 5, Tipp City School Board President Simon Patry was talking about transparency around current district projects when board member Anne Zakkour tried to interrupt him, but Patry wanted nothing to do with him.

“I’m talking, don’t disturb me, don’t make any noise or I will, I will not tolerate. Stop talking,” Patry demanded in a moment captured on video.

Zakkour did not appreciate the way the “dictator” president told him and shouted “Oh, Sieg Heil” while raising his left hand and pointing it at Patry.

The animation board member explained his actions as an act of symbolism towards Patry.

“Mr. Patry has acted like a dictator on our board for years and last night I had enough of his demands to comply fully,” Zakkour told the Dayton education franchise 24/7 News. “My reaction last night was symbolic and a sarcastic gesture to bow to the board officials who act as dictators. Enough is enough!”

At the end of the “Work Session” meeting, Patry announced that he would be leaving his role.

“At this time, I would like to announce that effective midnight tonight, I will be resigning from the school board of education,” Patry said, explaining that he is resigning as president immediately.

Patry made a motion that board Vice President Amber Drum be appointed as the new board president, but not before Zakkour stepped in, as she asked for clarification on the terminology of Drum’s role and term, much to Patry’s annoyance.

The new position has already been posted on the school district website.

It is unclear whether Patry’s resignation was related to Zakkour’s gesture.

Tipp City is located 16 miles north of Dayton and has an enrollment of 2,356 students, with more than 92% white, according to USNews.com.

Zakkour’s comments and salute came hours after a spectator at the US Open was kicked out of Arthur Ashe Stadium for allegedly using the same phrase.

Alexander Zverev was battling Jannik Sinner in the fourth set of their epic Round of 16 match when the German star claimed fans shouted “the most famous Hitler phrase there is.”

The man was ejected from the stadium and Zverev ended up winning the match.
