“Shaft” and “Se7en” actor Richard Roundtree has died at the age of 81.
The actor, best known for his lead role in the movie “Shaft,” died on Tuesday after a short battle with an aggressive form of cancer. The Roundtrees huddled around her at her bedside.
Specifically, Roundtree’s cause of death was pancreatic cancer.
“Artist & Representation Agency is saddened by the loss of our friend and client Richard Roundtree,” said Roundtree’s agent. He added, “His brilliant career has changed the face of entertainment around the world and his lasting legacy will be felt for generations to come. Our hearts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Richard Roundtree is considered the first Black action hero, and is best known for his role as detective John Shaft in “Shaft”. Decades later, the actor reprized his role in John Singleton’s 2000 film “Shaft” co-starring Samuel L. Jackson. He also starred in “Inchon” 1981, “City Heat” 1984 opposite Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds, as well as “Se7en”, “George of the Jungle”, “Body of Influence”, “Amityville: A New Generation” and ” What Men Want”.

She also had leading roles in television series including “Generations”, “413 Hope St.”, “Alias”, “Diary of a Single Mother”, “Buddies”, “Desperate Housewives”, “Soul Food”, “Being Mary Jane”, and “Family Reunion”.
The late actor recently spoke about his second marriage, explaining, “Well, my second marriage reflected some of the things that happened in the script. And the dilemma of going back to that relationship, and wanting to know why the divorce happened. And the fact that he basically had moved, but there was always a question in the back of his mind because he was really in love with his wife.”
