In an emotional interview on Piers Morgan’s “Uncensored,” Penn paid tribute to “Friends” star Matthew Perry, acknowledging his tragic death.
During a candid conversation with Penn, 63, praised Perry for discussing his substance abuse struggles, labeling him a “talented man.” She said: “A talented man. I can’t claim to know him well, but I like him very much.”
Describing a recent encounter at the Los Angeles airport, the “Mystic Rivers” actor said, per Daily Mail: “I saw him quite recently, and we were both on a flight out of the Los Angeles airport, and I complimented him on what I knew about his book.”

He continued: “I haven’t read the book, I’ve seen some of his interviews, and he seems to be talking about it, having faced it, and being very smart and brave about it and generously offering his experience to people to be helpful.”
Penn, whose son is dealing with addiction, expressed grief over Perry’s death, adding: “It’s tragic, I can’t say I’m very shocked. I don’t know what the coroner reported and everything, but I know he’s done a lot of damage to his organs over the years.”
He concluded: “You know, it’s a difficult situation, and he has to do it, he has to leave the story behind and he has to give a lot of joy to a lot of people with his talent. So, I wish his family well.”
