A precocious coot found himself in need of help after getting stuck in a Kentucky storm drain, according to reports and adorable footage from the scene.
Officers from Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control began receiving calls reporting the husky’s distress Sunday morning, and when they arrived, they found the dog, Sebastian, with his muzzle sticking out of a narrow gutter and his sharp pale eyes staring back at them.
“He’s pretty noticeable, because he has these amazing blue eyes, when you look at his face in the storm drain, that I think would surprise anyone who walks by,” responding officer Jai Hamilton told 12News.
Hamilton and another officer spent about 30 minutes trying to coax the dog out, which they said was very “vocal,” but well-behaved throughout the ordeal.

“He’s very talkative,” Hamilton said. “He wants help, but he’s a little scared, and he’s very vocal all the time, so it’s really hard to read his behavior.”
“But he’s a very good boy,” she added.
It’s unclear how Sebastian got himself into the tight spot, but animal control officials speculate he may have chased an animal into the drain and found he couldn’t get out the way he came.

Eventually, the rescue crew lifted the manhole cover over the drain, then lowered themselves into the sewer with Sebastian and were able to lift him out.
“It was a bit difficult because he’s a big dog, and taking him, we didn’t know his behavior took him over the storm drain,” Hamilton said.
“But he’s a really good kid, and I think he’s just excited to get out.”
Sebastian was later reunited with his owner and is now safe at home.
He’s not the only pup to go spelunking in storm drains recently.
Earlier in November, three puppies in San Antonio, Texas, had to be rescued after they fell into an open purge valve.

Two of the puppies were quickly pulled to safety by the San Antonio Fire Department, but the third crawled into a sewer line and prompted an eight-hour rescue mission.
The dog was located about 200 feet underground using a camera system that drove the dog toward a sewer opening where it was eventually rescued, wet and shaken, but safe.
