In her Instagram Story, Gomez shared her thoughts on the Israel-Hamas conflict, which has caused thousands of deaths since it began a few weeks ago.
Gomez wrote, “I’ve taken a break from social media because I’m heartbroken to see all the horror, hatred and violence going on in the world. People being tortured and killed or any act of hatred towards any one group is horrible.”

The singer went on to say that “we have to protect EVERYONE,” especially children, who have also been victims of the conflict on both sides.
Gomez also insisted that while his words “words will not be enough for everyone,” he will not “stand by innocent people who are hurt.”
He ended his post, “That’s what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But the post will not.”

Gomez’s post didn’t sit well with her fans, prompting them to slam her in the comments section of a post about her skin care products.
One fan said, “You celebrities don’t realize how important your voice is and can impact other people, and it hurts to hear you say things like, ‘I can’t stand watching what happens.’ Imagine living through it!!!”
Another follower lashed out at how Gomez only wrote the post to put herself in the spotlight.
The fan said, “He is always the victim. lol, I can actually believe his words but suddenly I remembered how concerned he is about the Ukrainian War. Shame on you Selena. Remain silent [sic] as usual.”
A third fan commented, “I’m glad I never spent my money on your products. Shame on you Selena. You portray positivity and influence so much good to the world and now you’re back with posts like this on your IG.”

Gomez is not the only celebrity to care about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Supermodel Gigi Hadid who is from Palestine recently made a statement in sympathy with both sides.
He described the killing of innocent lives by the conflict as an “unwarranted tragedy” and said it “doesn’t align with & does nothing good for the ‘Free Palestine’ movement.”
Hadid also acknowledged that there are many “complicated, personal and legitimate feelings” on both ends, but it should not lead to the denial of human rights that have prevented the safety of innocent lives.
In a different post on her Instagram Story, Hadid wrote, “There is nothing Jewish about the Israeli government’s treatment of the Palestinian people.”
“Condemning the Israeli government is not antisemitic and supporting the Palestinian people is not supporting Hamas.”

Although Hadid’s comments appeared to provide a balanced view of the issue, the Israeli government took offense and responded with a post similar to the one she wrote via the official account.
“There is nothing brave about Hamas’s massacre of Israel,” the statement said. “Condemning Hamas because it is not anti-Palestinian and supporting Israel in their fight against barbaric terrorists is the right thing to do.”

The account also accused Hadid of “turning a blind eye to Jewish babies being slaughtered in their homes,” adding, “Your silence is very clear about your position. We see you.”
Meanwhile, comments made by Hadid have sparked death threats from social media users. Allegedly, family members had to change their phone numbers because these numbers were leaked online.
