Sen. Rand Paul uses Heimlich maneuver on choking Sen. Joni Ernst: ‘Hero!’

Rand to the rescue!

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was called to action on Thursday, successfully using the Heimlich maneuver on Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) who choked during the GOP luncheon.

The luncheon was hosted by Ernst, 53, and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who shared a photo of himself and Ernst posing with plates laden with pulled pork, creamed corn and salad just before the terrifying moment.

“Can’t help but choke on the vigilante policies the Dems force down our throats. Thank you, Dr. @RandPaul!” Enrst posted on X, apparently feeling OK after Paul, an ophthalmologist and graduate of Duke Medical School, performed a quick first aid procedure.

Kelley Paul, the senator’s wife of 33 years, expressed her pride in her husband’s quick thinking.

“Senator Rand Paul, MD is a hero! Glad Senator Ernst is ok!,” he tweeted.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who often clashes with his libertarian colleagues on foreign policy issues, also praised Paul’s good deeds.

“God bless Rand Paul,” Graham told reporters after the incident. “I never thought I’d say that.”

Ernst is chairman of the Republican Policy Committee and a member of the Senate GOP leadership team. He has served in the upper chamber since 2015 and previously spent 23 years in the Army Reserve and Iowa National Guard.
