Senior Hezbollah commander killed by Israeli airstrike in Beirut

BEIRUT, Jan 8 – An Israeli strike in southern Lebanon on Monday killed a senior commander in Hezbollah’s elite Radwan force, three security sources told Reuters.

Security sources identified him as Wissam al-Tawil, deputy unit chief in Radwan’s forces.

They said he and another Hezbollah terrorist were killed when their car was hit in an attack in the Lebanese village of Majdal Selm.

“This is a very painful attack,” said one security source. Another said, “everything will happen now.”

Israeli bombardment has killed more than 130 Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon since cross-border attacks began after a Hamas attack on Israeli territory on Oct. 7.

Another 19 have been killed in Syria.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah warned Israel in two speeches broadcast last week not to launch a full-scale war on Lebanon.

“Whoever thinks about war with us – in a word, he will regret it,” Nasrallah said.
