Serena Williams may be in the running for Reveal of the Year with what she pulled off recently at the MET Gala.
The iconic tennis player retired from the sport last year in hopes of pursuing other parts of his life, and it seems he has found success with his growing family.

Williams surprised her fans when she uploaded a photo of herself, her husband Alexis Ohanian, Snr., and their baby at the MET Gala 2023. In the 5-slide post, the mother of one is seen giggling at something her husband said, looking sharp in a black dress.
Williams’ Gucci gown had a matching jacket and tulle train underneath, while Ohanian wore a simple tuxedo. The following four slides show different poses of the retired athlete, with the last slide making her baby bump very apparent. Williams made an interesting pun in the caption that read:
“So excited when Anna Wintour invited the three of us to the Met Gala.”
It didn’t take long before his fans and loved ones flooded the comments section to express their love and congratulations; however, some were fascinated by her chosen method of revealing her pregnancy.
Journalist and sports executive Bonnie Bernstein wrote, “Well, THIS is, like, the holy grail of pregnancy announcement changes, if ever there was one. Congratulations Serena and @alexisohanian!!” One excitedly asked, “Wait a minute… is this an old picture? Are we having a new baby?” while another commenter wrote, “Now that’s a revelation! Congratulations!”

The soon-to-be father of two also joined the celebration with a post on his Twitter page. The internet entrepreneur shared a message that read, “Mama & Papa love this parenting thing, so we’re back at it, and @olympiaohanian is going to be the best Big Sister—she’s been asking & praying for this for a minute. #MetGala.”
Fans and well-wishers also poured in in response with congratulations to the happy family.
Motherhood Inspired Serena’s Retirement
As fans recall, the 41-year-old shocked the world last August when he announced his retirement from Tennis. The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who described his retirement from Tennis as a “painful evolution,” spoke about the events that led to his decision to leave the sport.
In an essay for Vogue, she recalled hearing her daughter Olympia express her desire to be a sister. Elaborating further, Williams said:
“Olympia says this a lot, even though she knows I’m listening. Sometimes before going to sleep, he prayed to Jehovah to give him a little sister. (She didn’t want anything to do with boys!) I’m the youngest of five sisters myself, and my sisters are my heroes, so this felt like a moment I needed to listen carefully.”

Although fulfilling her baby girl’s wishes appears to be a priority, Williams has been candid about choosing between her career and her family, describing it as “unfair”. In his words:
“Believe me, I never want to have to choose between tennis and family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a man, I wouldn’t be writing this because I would be out there playing and winning while my wife does the physical work to grow our family.”
Williams compared her career to football’s GOAT, Tom Brady, to drive home the sacrifices she had to make as a woman. She, however, insisted on her love for being a woman and her first pregnancy, adding:
“I was one of those annoying women who loved being pregnant and worked until the day I had to report to the hospital—even when things got really complicated on the other side.”
However, Williams revealed that he had to choose family over sports because of his age. “A lot of people didn’t realize I was two months pregnant when I won the Australian Open in 2017. But I’m 41 this month, and I’ve got something to give,” she explained.
