Former NFL star Sergio Brown pleaded not guilty in his second court appearance since his arrest in connection with his mother’s death.

Brown was picked up by authorities and charged with first-degree murder and one count of hiding after his mother was found dead near a creek less than 100 yards from her home.

The former NFL star was arrested in October after he was deported from Mexico, where he was seen partying as authorities searched for his mother, Myrtle.

Sergio and Myrtle’s existence first came to the attention of authorities when his brother Nick took to Instagram to announce that his brother and mother were missing.

“Guys, my mother Myrtle Brown and brother Sergio Brown are missing. I didn’t wait another hour. Please share! If you see them or one of them, please let me or the Maywood Police Office know!!” the announcement was read.

A missing person’s report was filed, and a neighbor of Brown’s family revealed, “His family knocked on the door and looked for him because they filed a police report because he had been missing for 72 hours. So, we try to help them as much as possible.”

Sadly, just a day after Nick’s announcement, the 73-year-old was found dead near a creek. He suffered injuries related to the attack and his death was ruled a homicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A neighbor said of the late parents, “Myrtle, she was a brilliant woman, and I hope she’s in the right place and she’s with God. I never expected this in a million years.”

In the midst of his mother’s absence and eventual death, Sergio was found partying in Tulum, Mexico, and sharing erratic social media posts on his incendiary account. In a post, the Buffalo Bills alum denied the allegations of his mother’s death.

“Fake news. It must have been the FBI that came to my house on the day of Bob Marley’s death, with a 511 haze and gas — uncalled for,” he lamented. “They kidnapped me twice from my house. Maywood, Sick Police Department… it must be the FBI or the Maywood Police. I thought my mom was on vacation.”

In an earlier post, Sergio, who partied with scantily clad women while in Mexico, downplayed a missing person’s report filed by police by referencing the 2003 children’s film “Finding Nemo.”

The authenticity of the strange video was confirmed by authorities through a statement: “Maywood police spokeswoman Carmen Rivera said in an email Tuesday, acknowledging that police are aware of the video and are investigating. An arrest warrant was issued on October 10 and the former football safety was arrested in San Diego while re-entering the US from Mexico.
