Seven Nashville detectives suspended after unauthorized leak of school shooter Audrey Hale’s alleged writings

The Nashville Police Department has suspended seven detectives in connection with the unauthorized leak of school shooter Audey Hale’s writings, according to a report.

The officials were placed on administrative duty Wednesday as the agency tries to determine exactly how conservative commentator Steven Crowder obtained the explosive documents, according to NBC affiliate Nashville.

Department spokesman Don Aaron told the station “seven individuals are on administrative assignment to protect the integrity of an active and ongoing investigation.”

Aaron insisted the move was “absolutely non-punitive” and said the suspended detective would not be named at this time.

Crowder said an unknown party contacted members of his website’s investigative unit who claimed to have some of Hale’s writing.

A member of his team flew to Nashville to meet the source, who showed him an image of a document embedded in a text exchange with someone Crowder described as a “Nashville detective.”

Crowder said his team was then able to research and authenticate them, paving the way for their release.

While the media and some law enforcement groups have argued that the writings should be in the public domain, the Covenant School and some family members of the victims have opposed their release.

“I am deeply concerned for the safety, security and well-being of the Covenant family and all grieving Nashvillians,” Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell said in a statement after Crowder disclosed Hale’s material.

A group of parents whose children were present during the massacre also condemned the leak through a spokesperson.

“You have now allowed [the shooter]who terrorized our family with bullets, can now terrorize us with words from the grave,” said Brent Leatherwood, a Covenant parent.

O’Connell said he will launch an investigation into the leak along with Nashville Police Chief John Drake.

Crowder has supported the release, arguing that other mass shooter manifestos have been released in time.

“This is one that doesn’t follow that narrative,” he said this week. “And a lot of people think it’s necessary for this to be released. And there are people involved with the Nashville PD who also believe things aren’t necessarily transparent.”

Nashville police initially said they would release at least 20 of Hale’s journals and ‘memoirs’ after their investigation was complete.

But they have cited lawsuits related to the material in delaying any release.

Hale, who is transgender, reveals deep anti-white hatred in his writings – especially towards those he considers “superior”.

Three 9-year-old children: Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs and William Kinney were shot to death during the rampage.

Three school employees – Katherine Koonce, 60, school principal, custodian Mike Hill, 61, and 61-year-old substitute teacher Cynthia Peak – were also shot dead.
