Facts/Trivia

  • In an interview, recalling the recording of the song ‘Ikk Kudi’ from the film ‘Udta Punjab,’ he said,

I have grown up listening to late Shiv Kumar Batalvi’s poetry, so we made this song in 20 minutes. However, I never thought that it would do so well and get so much love. When I sang the song, it was done in 2-3 takes but he made me sing it a few more times, and finally, he hugged me and revealed that the song had been done before in the first few takes but when I sang it every time, I was able to give birth to new feelings and emotions that Amit Trivedi Ji enjoyed. There are many more interesting stories but this is the one closest to my heart.”

  • The song ‘Kukkad’ from the film ‘Student of the Year’ in 2012 was recorded by Shahid in 20 minutes.
  • In 2014, he sang 4 songs in Bollywood movies ‘Gunday,’ ‘Saaiyaan,’ ‘Bolo Na,’ ‘Mann Kunto Maula (Bangla Version),’ and ‘Mann Kunto Maula (Classic Bangla Version).’
  • According to Shahid Mallya, after establishing himself in Mumbai, he once faced discrimination on the basis of his religion during Ramadan.
  • In an interview, he shared his thoughts on the remix culture in Bollywood. He said,

Of course, making remixes is easier. Making pizza with bread is easy but making bread is difficult. Someone has to make the bread, and only then can you put the pizza topping on it. I think only those songs should be remixed which people have forgotten or songs of music directors, singers and lyricists who have gone to heaven. Old songs are heritage. It’s like an old building that needs to be rebuilt. There is no harm in that but due credit should be given to the original makers. Now, there is a song ‘Aankh Maarey’ which was originally sung by Kumar Sanu. He must watch the remixed version on TV. The lyricist must also be alive and probably watching it on TV. How do they feel seeing their work being used without giving them the credit they deserve? We sell the rights to these music companies and then they do whatever they want. It’s a pretty bad situation. Indian music needs to be protected.”

  • In an interview, he spoke about the struggles he had to face when he first came to Mumbai, where he faced Nepotism. He said,

People who come from small towns face various problems. First, they don’t know the way to studios and production houses. And then, one has to get along with the language, food and environment of this city. When people see you speaking in your language like Punjabi or Rajasthani, others look down on you and don’t think you are worthy enough to give a chance. Everyone who leaves his city to come to Mumbai faces this problem and I face nothing different. But I have come to Mumbai with my whole family. So, my struggle is less.”
