Shaista Parveen is an Indian politician and the wife of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed. His name came into focus during the police investigation when it was found that he planned the murder of Umesh Pal in February 2023.

Shaista Parveen was born on Saturday, 1 July 1972 (age 50 years; in 2022) in Dhoomanganj area of Prayagraj (then Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Cancer. Although he belongs to Dhoomanganj area in Prayagraj; however, since his father was a police constable, he spent his childhood in the Pratapgrah area of Prayagraj and also learned the tactics of the police department due to his proximity to police officers. She completed her schooling at Kidwai Memorial Girls Inter College, Prayagraj and later completed her graduation.

Politics
After her husband Atiq was jailed in 2017 and the police started filing chargesheets in the FIR, she started seeking political cover for her family so that she could preserve Asad’s political background in hopes of freeing him. He joined the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in September 2021 in an event where AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi was also present.

He later conducted many rallies for AIMIM and recited a message given by Atiq at the rally where he said that Muslims should vote for him because they had no political representatives who had forced them to do menial jobs like repairing bicycles.
He joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on 5 January 2023 in a grand ceremony. There are rumors that he will contest the mayoral election of Prayagraj as a BSP candidate; however, he was later dropped as a mayoral candidate. When he joined the BSP, he said that Muslim and Dalit votes were important to him, and he would work to improve them. He said,
The combination of Dalits and Muslims can bring magic in the political field not only in UP but also in the entire country. But I think the situation will be good and profitable when the BSP chief becomes the chief minister of the state.”

Controversy
Named as the Conspirator of Umesh Pal’s murder
The brother of former BSP MLA Raju Pal, Umesh Pal, was killed in broad daylight on February 24, 2023 in Prayagraj. Umesh was the main witness in the Raju Pal kidnapping case. Two policemen were also killed in the exchange of fire. The police then filed an FIR against Shaista Parveen, her husband, Atiq Ahmed, her son, Asad, Atiq’s brother, Ashraf, 4 other criminals named Guddu Muslim, Armaan, Ghulam, and Sabir as accused in the case. While investigating the details later, the police came to know about his role in the murder. They found that he often organized talks between Atiq and other members of the group. He fled to an unknown location to avoid arrest after which the police announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for him on March 12, 2023. He then approached the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in March 2023 for anticipatory bail; however, the appeal was dismissed. The UP Police later doubled the reward to him to Rs 50,000 in April 2023. It was rumored that he would surrender to pay his last respects to his son Asad who was killed in an encounter in Jhansi on 13 April 2023.

- Three cases were registered against him in 2009 in cases related to kidnapping, intimidation, and the Arms Act; charge sheet has also been filed for the same.
- In 2017, he allegedly kept in touch with her via mobile phone and operated his group IS-227 with the help of his son and other relatives.
- He later became famous after many people claimed he threatened them using the name Atiq and often masterminded deadly attacks against them.

- He claimed in January 2021 that his parents’ house in Chakia area of Prayagraj was raided by drunk policemen in the middle of the night by crossing the boundary wall of the house. He claimed that it was only women who were present in the house at the time that the policemen misbehaved with them. He said,
There was no man in the house at the time. The police woke them up and searched the house where they ransacked the rooms and misbehaved with family members.”

- She filed an application in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in March 2023 stating that her two young sons, Azhaan and Abaan, were illegally detained by the police, and she could not meet them. In their reply, the police stated that the two boys were found in Kasari Masari area and sent to the juvenile detention center in Khuldabad.
- There are rumors that he often visits the house of one of his brothers-in-law, who is posted in Varanasi as a sub-inspector in the UP Police.
- According to the leaked call recording of Shaista talking to Atiq, who is in Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat, he was not happy when Asad was named as one of the accused in Umesh Pal’s murder; however, Atiq scolds him and calls Asad ‘Sher Ka Beta.’
- The police department had difficulty removing her posters because she was always photographed wearing a Niqaab (Face Covering) in public; however, they found a photo of her face in one of the wedding albums after which they were able to release her poster.

- There were rumors that he instigated Atiq and other gang members to avenge their insult by killing Umesh Pal in public so that people would continue to fear them.
