Shakira Allegedly Owes Spanish Government $7.1 Million In Second Tax Fraud Case

Recent reports have revealed that singer Shakira may be on trial for yet another tax fraud case.

The singer is now set to defend himself in a Spanish court on November 20 after being charged with six counts of tax fraud in relation to his income for 2012-2014.

Most recently, another tax fraud case was filed against him for his 2018 income. However, the singer’s legal team said he has yet to receive any notification of the lawsuit.

According to reports Shakira has been charged with tax fraud for the second time in the past decade.

The complaint filed by prosecutors against the star alleges that Shakira omitted “to declare income and deduct inappropriate expenses” for her income from 2018. By doing so, she reduced the “amount to be paid” to the tax authorities in her country of residence, Spain.

It is believed that the total amount the singer failed to pay was 6.7 million euros ($7.1 million) and that he used a “corporate network in tax havens” to avoid paying the amount.

Despite the news, Shakira’s legal team said that the “Hips Don’t Lie” rider has yet to receive any notification of the lawsuit.

“No notification has been received in Miami, the official address of the singer, regarding the lawsuit regarding the 2018 financial year,” the statement said.

Aside from the recent charges, the singer is preparing to go to court over a separate tax case.

Less than two months ago, he was charged with six counts of fraud on his income for the 2012-2014 financial year. The total amount he defaulted on was reported to be $15.4 million.

In the filing, Spanish prosecutors claimed the Colombian singer had already lived in Barcelona between 2012 and 2014 before she moved to the location with her ex, Gerrard Pique, and their two sons. Therefore, he is expected to pay taxes for that year.

The trial date has been set for November 20 this year. However, none have been agreed to for the recent tax fraud allegations. Additionally, Shakira has moved to Miami with her two sons since her split from Pique following allegations of cheating.

The singer recently opened up about her past relationship with former Barcelona player Piqué, who she dated for 11 years.

She shared that the whole time, she was focused on always making it work, regardless of their marital problems.

“My priority is my home, my family. I believe in “till death do us part,” he said in an interview with Billboard. “I believe in that dream, and I have that dream for myself, for my children.

“My parents have been together, I don’t know, 50 years, and they love each other like the first day, with a unique and unrepeatable love. So I knew it was possible.”

Shakira also revealed that her dedication to Pique and her family makes it difficult for her to give maximum effort to her career.

“Well, the problem is, I’m dedicated to him. To the family, to him,” he said. “It was very difficult for me to attend to my professional career while at Barcelona.”

According to the singer, the difficulty came from a logistical point of view, as it was challenging to find a collaborator in Barcelona as he had to wait for a schedule to match.

He said, “I can’t leave my kids and go somewhere to make music outside my house. It’s hard to keep a rhythm.”

Since leaving Pique and moving to Miami, the Grammy-winning star has steered his career back on track and has announced plans for a global tour in 2024. Despite his reputation for lavish concerts, he aims to keep ticket prices “affordable”, stressing that the repertoire song is the most important thing.
