Shakira’s the long-awaited day in court with the Spanish government is reportedly fast approaching.
The Spanish government sued the singer for alleged tax fraud and evasion.
Shakira maintains her innocence, but the government believes she evaded taxes from 2012 to 2014, with bills totaling more than $14 million.

follow Marcalegal sources recently reported that a court in the city of Barcelona has set November 20 as the trial date.
The court has scheduled 12 sessions with about 200 witnesses in November and December.
The Spanish government is calling for Shakira to be sentenced to eight years and two months in prison IF she is found guilty.
But, the trial could be shortened if Shakira reaches a last-minute agreement with the Public Prosecutor’s and Attorney General’s offices. He could receive a reduced sentence in exchange for admitting to the fraud.
Again, Shakira and her legal team completely denied any wrongdoing.

The large number of witnesses is the main reason 12 sessions have been scheduled. It was reported that the Attorney General’s Office proposed 100 witnesses, 30 by the Prosecutor’s Office and 60 by the defense.
A judge has asked Shakira to appear in court only on the day she is scheduled to testify and on the last day of the trial.

Last year, Shakira’s team released a message about the upcoming trial and her innocence.

CNN obtained a decision in which the investigating magistrate said there was “sufficient evidence” to hold a trial for the singer’s alleged tax evasion for 2012, 2013 and 2014.
According to reports, Judge Marco Jesús claimed that Shakira lived in Spain for more than 200 days in each of those three years, making her liable to pay taxes there.
Furthermore, Judge Jesús also named his financial advisor in the decision. They said the two supported using several companies in offshore tax havens to hide the source of his income for the three years.
His lawyer claims he lived in the Bahamas most of the time from 2012 to 2014.
