Controversy
On 22 April 2021, he was arrested by the Hubli Police for his involvement in the brutal murder of his brother. Earlier, four suspects including Niyaz Ahmed Katigar (21), Tousif Channapur (21), Altaf Mulla (24), and Aman Giraniwale (19) were arrested in the case.

Reportedly, his brother was killed in the same house where he lived, and the whole scene happened when he was out for a movie promotion. According to sources, Shanaya was in a relationship with one of the prisoners, Niyaz Ahmed Katigar. Shanaya’s brother Rakesh opposes their relationship after which Niyaz Ahmed Katigar and Shanaya plot his murder. Rakesh’s body was cut into parts and dumped in various parts of Hubli city. His charred severed head was found from Devargudihal forest area and the remaining body parts were found on Gadag Road and other areas in Hubballi, Karnataka.
