“Dancing With the Stars” host Alfonso Ribeiro recently received heat from fans after calling Shangela by the wrong name. In last week’s episode, you could hear the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” cast refer to the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star as “Angela,” not “Shangela.”
Shangela addressed the mistake in a hilarious TikTok video, but last night, while on live television, the Drag Queen called Ribeiro out for the mistake.

After dancing the Charleston to “Dig a Little Deeper” from Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” on last night’s episode of “Dancing With the Stars,” Shangela headed to the sky box to chat with host Alfonso Ribiero about their performance.
Ribeiro goes to ask Shangela about not knowing what a “sickle foot” is, which is a reference to her introduction package, the Drag Queen fires back and brings up the topic on everyone’s mind.
“The real question: Do you know my name?” he asked her, referring to the many times he called her “Angela” instead of “Shangela.” The question left the other contestants and the audience speechless as Shanela laughed at it. The moment left Ribeiro stunned and speechless.
“Well… Hello. Hello. Listen,” Ribeiro said before trying to think of a way to respond. “I mean yes. Good. You got me before I got to you.”
Realizing he was off guard, Shangela stepped in and said, “I’m sorry. Angela is here for you dear.”
The “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” actor finally collected his thoughts and replied, “Listen, I want to say, the last few weeks, I’ve actually mispronounced your name a couple of times. I did say ‘Angela,’ which is my wife’s name, so it’s term of endearment. You know what I’m talking about?”
Shangela responded with, “You know I love you baby. And you’re my Alfondo,” he joked, mispronouncing his name on purpose.
The Drag Queens then received their scores, which were 8s across the board from the judges — giving them the highest score of the competition! They sit at the top of the leaderboard with 32 out of 40.

This is not the first time the two have had awkward moments.
During the second week of the competition, host Alfonso Ribeiro spoke with Shangela following her performance, asking the star what it was like to perform as the first male partner in the long-running competition series. Shangela quickly called Ribero out for using the wrong term, going on to explain what it meant to her to be a part of the show.
“Well, first of all, it’s a boy and a Drag Diva, but yes, it is,” Shangela said with a laugh. “Honestly, you know what? To be anyone who can walk through the door, there is responsibility. Not only to walk through it fiercely but also to push it so that others come behind. And that’s what we hope to do tonight.”
The reality competition show recently moved from its home on ABC to Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, and airs every Monday night at 8pm ET.
