Shannen Doherty discusses her last wishes, including planning her own funeral and putting together a guest list, in the latest episode of her podcast.
The conversation, described as “painful” but “fun,” involved her best friend and executor of her will, Chris Cortazzo.
Shannen Doherty Plans to Leave ‘Fake’ People Off Her Funeral Guest List
Since Doherty received and announced her initial breast cancer diagnosis in 2015, she has been transparent about her journey, including her IVF struggles and the creation of her “bucket list”.
So it was no surprise when she touched on the subject of the illness that resulted in her death and funeral during her latest podcast episode, “Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty.”
In a candid moment on the show, the actor confessed, “I was horrible at funerals. I don’t know if anyone is really good at funerals, but I’m the girl who, like, really cries. I can’t handle it.”

With his perspective in mind, the 52-year-old envisions his funeral as less somber and more festive at home. However, he prefers a more intimate guest list, embracing the idea that less is more. He expressed his desire for a select guest list, stating:
“There are a lot of people that I think will show up that I don’t want there. I don’t want them to be there because their reasons for showing up aren’t necessarily the best reasons, like, they don’t really like me, and, you know, they have their reasons, and good for them, but they don’t. I actually liked me enough to come to my funeral.”
The “90210” alum elaborated, “But they’re going to do it because it’s the politically correct thing to do, and they don’t want to look bad, so I kind of want to take the pressure off them. I want my funeral to be like a love fest. I don’t want people to cry or think privately, ‘Thank God that b— is dead now.'”
In response, Cortazzo jokingly asked for a list of those who would be invited to the celebration, prompting his friend to playfully quip, “That’s shorter, that’s the better list. I can’t give a list of who I don’t want because that’s too long.”
Later in the conversation, Doherty provided more information about why certain people wouldn’t be invited, saying that she was referring to “people who really don’t like me.”
He doubled down on his point, claiming that he hates “falsehood” and can’t “stand with people who suddenly want to pretend that they found Jesus and they are very sorry and they repent and they don’t mean anything bad that they did . talking about you, blah, blah, blah. I can’t stand that.”

Doherty maintained that those people were “still human beings” who should “stay away” and “just ignore” him in public.
Doherty’s Cancer Return Sparks Her Interest In Finding ‘a Greater Purpose In Her Life’
Doherty’s discussion of his funeral plans came shortly after he revealed his cancer had spread to his brain which had metastasized to his bones. The Blast noted that he passionately expressed his resilience via social media:
“I don’t want to die. I’m not done with life. I’m not done making love yet. I haven’t finished creating. I’m not done hoping to change things for the better. I’m not — I’m not done.”
Doherty revealed that her cancer diagnosis greatly affected her outlook on life, leading her to search for a deeper purpose.
“When you ask yourself, ‘Why me? Why did I get cancer?’ and then ‘Why did my cancer come back? Why am I at level 4?,’ which leads you to find a greater purpose in life,” explained the “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” star.
Doherty, reflecting on her journey, declared that her “greatest memories are yet to come” and shared how she often prayed “for things that mattered to me without asking for too much.”
The occasional “Dancing with the Stars” contestant also delves into the impact of living with cancer on her perspective:
“I know it sounds cheesy and crazy, but you know better than anything, and you feel so blessed. We are the people who want to work the most because we are so grateful for every second, every hour, every day we get to be here.”
