Since she got her first cancer diagnosis in 2015, Doherty has been candid about the process, including getting a mastectomy and starting chemotherapy.

That theme remained the same on Monday’s episode of his podcast, where the “Beverly Hills, 90210” star took listeners into a new phase of his journey — putting his affairs in order before his impending death.

“My priority at the moment is my mother. I know it will be difficult for her if I die before her. Because it will be very difficult for her, I want other things to be easier,” he said.

Doherty explained he did this because he didn’t want Rosa to “have a lot of stuff to deal with” or “have four storage units filled with furniture.”

Another part of the journey the 52-year-old had to face was achieving his dream of living on his Tennessee property and raising unreal horses. Regarding that, he shared:

“So we’re in Tennessee and I’m packing up one of the places there, it’s really hard and really emotional because on some level – I feel like I’ve given up on the dream of building this property, and putting a home for me and house for my mother and then extend the barn.”

After Doherty revealed his plan to create a sanctuary for horses abandoned due to age or injury, he highlighted the troubling questions that plagued him at the time. In his words:

“I feel like I’ve given up on the dream and what does that mean for me? Does it mean I’m giving up on life? Does it mean I’m throwing in the towel?”

Fortunately, a conversation with her mother got her back on track as she realized that she could pursue an alternative path to pursue her passion for helping horses.

However, she experienced another change when she returned to the residence a week later to pack all her belongings in a U-haul to take back to California.

According to the “Little House on the Prairie” star, he had an epiphany during that second visit where he realized his dream was a “stupid idea” due to the extensive renovation costs associated with the property.

Ultimately, she decided, “I can still live my dream of helping horses, I can still live that dream by actually participating in a rescue that I’m much more capable of doing.”

Doherty’s insight into her journey comes two months after she delved into her final wishes, which included planning her funeral and compiling a guest list on her podcast.

She started the chat by admitting that she was “terrible at funerals” because she was “the girl who, like, really cried.”

With that, the “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” performer revealed that she wanted her funeral to be a fun house party with a small guest list of people who really loved her.

Elaborating on her choices, Doherty told listeners that there are certain people she doesn’t want at her funeral “because their reasons for attending aren’t necessarily the best reasons, like, they don’t really like me.”

He shared that these people would only attend his funeral “because it was the politically correct thing to do, and they didn’t want to look bad.”

For that reason, he wanted to “take the pressure off them” and have a funeral that was “like a love fest” without people “personally thinking, ‘Thank God that b— is dead now.'”

Last month, Doherty publicly shared his admiration for Kate Middleton after the mother-of-three announced her cancer diagnosis. In a statement published on Instagram, Doherty wrote:

“Being a public figure doesn’t mean the public owns that person. The onslaught of conspiracy theories, possessions, and obvious, unpleasant curiosity forces this person to explain himself before he agrees to it and explains it to his children.”

“And Princess Kate, I admire your strength through the endless onslaughts you endured while living with cancer,” he concluded. The post has garnered nearly 70,000 likes and over 2,000 comments since it went live on March 23.
