Sharon Stone broke down in tears during her acceptance speech for the Courage Award at a recent Women’s Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) fundraiser. The “Basic Instinct” actor shared that it took a lot of “guts” to donate to the cause because he just lost “half” of his fortune.
He said, per Page Six, “I know what you have to do and figuring out how to text money is hard. I’m a technical idiot, but I can write af**king check. And now, that’s courage too, because I know what’s going on. I just lost half my money on this banking thing, and that doesn’t mean I’m not here.”
However, Stone did not explain exactly what “banking thing” had caused him to lose so much money, but it may have been the recent collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. The Benefit Gala, where the actress told about her loss, was held in Beverly Hills and had other star guests such as Rachel Zoe and Rebel Wilson.

During her speech at the Women’s Cancer Research Fund fundraiser, Stone also mentioned the recent death of her brother, Patrick Stone. Patrick, who lost a son, River, to total organ failure, died last month of heart disease.
The “Disaster Artist” actor said, “My brother just passed away, and that doesn’t mean I’m not here. It’s not an easy time for any of us.” He continued, per Page Six, “These are difficult times in the world, but I tell you what, I don’t have politicians telling me what I can and can’t do, how I can and can’t live, and what my life is worth and not. So stand up. Stand up and say what you are worth. I challenge you. That is courage.”

In 2021, Stone spoke about his nephew River’s health on social media about a week before his death, calling on fans to pray for his recovery. She posted a picture of the baby connected to various machines and wrote the caption, “My niece and godson River Stone was found in her crib with complete organ failure today. Please pray for her. We need a miracle.”

Stone himself has undergone several surgeries to combat various health problems. In 2001, the actress underwent surgery to remove a benign tumor from her breast, which she called “giant, bigger than my breast alone.” Stone also claims that during breast reconstructive surgery, the surgeon gave her larger implants without permission.
